When you start researching steps to take when opening a new business you’ll see so much hype about finding your niche, narrowing your focus, or only talking to your target audience. And we understand that. You definitely want to know who it is you’re trying to work with. But sometimes it’s not so obvious who exactly will need the services you are offering. When we first started Toptimizers we went in with open minds saying that we would work with any business but in the back of our minds we assumed we would be working with professional services since that’s what we knew best based on our past experiences. But if you talk to any business coach or consultant they will tell you that thinking anyone can be a client is a horrible idea. What we found was that our target market came to us. Since we had a skillset and business model that could work across most any industry we didn’t want to limit ourselves in the beginning. All too often we hear stories of new businesses thinking they will go one direction and end up heading an entirely different direction. So rather than having to do a total overhaul on our brand when that happened, we decided to start broad and let our niche find us. And that’s exactly what happened. Today we will talk you through that journey and introduce our new brand, new podcast, and new direction. Ann Regan Kearns founded Odyssey Public Relations in June of this year, 2020. Formerly she was a publicist and, unfortunately, laid off due to COVID. Instead of searching for a new job, she launched the public relations business that she had wanted to do. Admittedly, she had to be pushed off the ledge from security into the abyss of entrepreneurship! And miraculously that ‘little’ push actually gave her the confidence to jump ship from the corporate world. Now that Ann Regan is helping companies with their public relations, she has no plans of looking back. She did sign up with a business coach who helped change her mindset and gave her the confidence she needed. Her advice for all people who are considering taking the leap is to do it now or never, there is never a ‘right’ time, have faith, listen to that little voice in your head, and listen to your instincts. Ann Regan loves her working hours because those hours are for her, she can work when she wants, and she works for her business and not for someone else’s business. She is so glad to be back into her own life and what fits her schedule. Enjoy your time with Ann Regan. We know you will love it! Lowell McKelvey with MKB Lawyers feels he doesn’t quite fit the definition of entrepreneur because he isn’t innovative like Elon Musk. And that is what makes Lowell a great attorney, always questioning every definition of a word. Attorneys who break away from traditional corporate law to hang their own shingle by nature innovative as they share greatly in the entrepreneur dilemma! How to do what you love or your practice and still run the business side of things is the universal question being asked by every business owner every day of every minute. Like so many, Lowell was comfortable in someone else’s firm, financial security was everything. However, it took a friend to kick him in the caboose to take the leap as the big corporate firm began to decline as the aging partners started to retire. Although uncertain, Lowell started to write down his goals and in that seemingly small act he found that his big goals got him through the bumps and it’s the big goals that keeps his focus. He loves the freedom and will never look back even though there are ups and downs. Freedom is what drives him. He was told it would take a good five years to really get to a comfortable place and he now believes it. Five years seems like a long time but Lowell encourages all to just do it. “Just freaking do it!” Enjoy Lowell and let your hearts not be troubled as you take the leap into freedom or as you struggle with holding onto freedom. Try anything for one year. That is the advice from Mindie Kaplan with Maleroom who our guest is today. Starting her career in structured corporate America she took the leap into entrepreneurship intentionally choosing to live her life outside of her comfort zone. Mindie took to the road and travels for a living, ambushing men for dating advice. She believes it is better to get dating advice for women from men and has a great time learning that men might not be so simple after all. It took a long time for Mindie to jump into entrepreneurship, but it came down to a final question, “What if I never do it and someone else does it, would I regret it?” The question ate at her so she started to take small steps toward her goal until the day came when she turned in her two weeks’ notice. At first, she was a little scared as she grew up in a family of entrepreneurs. So, she was very familiar with the ups and downs and the many unknowns. Mindie’s success embeds her lesson to try something for one year. She teaches us to analyze what it is we want to undertake, reach out to our existing network of people and get their input. Next, weigh the personal risks that include hard costs, financial risk, and strategize. Ask ourselves who and do we need to produce the product or service. If it looks like a business is a go, build a great diverse advisory team. We are sure you will learn so much from Mindie – enjoy! Case Lane with Ready Entrepreneur is our dynamic guest today. She loves to travel and right now spends her time planning travel. She is from Canada and has a vast background in travel and international diplomacy. She always had in the back of her mind that she wanted to be an entrepreneur. Although she had fascinating jobs and became an attorney, she still chose to do her own thing and that is being an entrepreneur. She helps people who are ready to stop working for someone else’s vision, who have always had it in the back of their minds that they want to be their own boss, and who have ideas put together a business action plan. A business action plan lists out all the activities a person will need to do in order to achieve their goal. From there she helps people figure out what is missing from their knowledge or skill base so that they can research and gain the missing information in order to fill in the blanks. After that she gets them to take those next steps in actually opening the business. Case reminds us that business is dynamic and always changing. So, it is important to keep learning, keep trying, keep going until you find that right message that will find the right people. Case has a new book out called Recast and is available on Amazon.   Resources:   Ready Entrepreneur Website  Free Reader's Summary  Amazon book page Email Address: contactcase@readyentrepreneur.com   Get in Touch with Toptimizers:   Buy Our Book - Optimization of the Entrepreneur Be a Guest on the Show  www.toptimizers.com  www.facebook.com/toptimizers  www.linkedin.com/toptimizers  www.instagram.com/shelli.toptimizers  www.pinterest.com/toptimizers  www.youtube.com/toptimizers --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
