Season 3: Episode 4 For the past decade, @Arden Santana has been the primary educator of two daughters while serving communities across the Northeast region as an educator and consultant. Alongside her husband and children, she is committed to self-reliance within communities of families who value education over schooling, intrinsic motivation as cause for creativity, and scientific processes over emotionalism. In response to parents’ dissatisfaction with school systems across the country after COVID-mandated closings, Arden’s family founded SĀHGE Academy, an alternative educational experience rooted in connected learning and cultural relevance. Arden enjoys reading, creating art with her daughters, hosting guests and loved ones, and traveling. She views her Bachelor’s Degree in English as an outcome of colonized education and her Masters Degree, National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship and certification in personal finance as examples of connected learning experiences. www.sahgeacademy.com https://www.linkedin.com/in/privateeducation/ **************************************************************************************** FULL INTERVIEW release on Girlfriends Chat with Angela Jordan Perry PODCAST @ Anchor.fm/girlfriendschat on Thursdays 2 p.m. EST and Interview Teasers (on Youtube) and a Podcast Full interview release: Thursdays 2 p.m. EST on YouTube at Girlfriends Guide to Homeschooling  with Angela Jordan Perry and on FB at Girlfriends Guide to Homeschooling with Angela Jordan Perry Blog/website: www.tumblr.com/GG2HwithAngelaJordanPerry --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/girlfriendschat/support

Embarking on year five of their conscious homeschool journey as they take it one day at a time. Having spent all of her formative years in traditional schools, homeschooling was not very familiar to Ebi, at first. Along the way, her journey has afforded her many opportunities to lead in various learning environments as a tutor, teacher, and now co-founder of Noire Educators Collective (founded by Natasha Bettina) a non-profit and international support group that serves as a resource for Black and Brown families and educators alike, both traditional and home. NOIRE Uncut, the podcast, was founded as another means to connect with our village family online. All of these things seem relatively easy when I compare them to being a Black homeschool parent in America. When Ebi is not homeschooling or co-managing NOIRE, she is creating. One of her favorite past times is writing. In following her passion and living in her purpose, she’s began writing my first children’s book, as well as a gentle literature-based curriculum for small children. Stay tuned! HIT THE SHARE BUTTON!! Brenea Fairchild is an educator, homeschool mom, and the founder of The Melanin Village. A lifelong learner and teacher, Brenaea is a career educator who worked in public schools and coached pre-service teachers prior to launching The Melanin Village. Brenea knew she wanted to homeschool after her culminating undergraduate research at Princeton University highlighted the inaccurate portrayal of slavery and the Civil War in U.S. History textbooks. This research, coupled with her experience in education and her admiration of her mentors who homeschooled, fueled much of her desire to teach her children at home. The mother of two boys, one of her greatest joys in homeschool is teaching world languages, and as a trilingual, Brenaea immerses her children in both Spanish and French. As Brenea became more involved in the homeschool community, she quickly realized the unique challenges that black families face when homeschooling-including finding like-minded community, access to accurate and quality curricula, and easy-to-digest information on evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning. She created The Melanin Village with the hope to create a gathering space for black and brown homeschoolers in which they can encourage, equip, and inspire one another to their fullest homeschool potential. ADDITIONALLY: I have a treat for you, Girlfriends!
