Nearly 16,000 people are now known to have been killed and thousands injured by a huge earthquake which struck south-eastern Turkey, near the Syrian border, in the early hours of Monday morning. This was a region where there had not been a major earthquake for more than 200 years or any warning signs, so the level of preparedness would be less than for a region which was more used to dealing with tremors. We pray for the people of Turkey and Syria, for the victims, the injured, and all those affected by the devastating earthquake. Practicing just 10 minutes of mindfulness - like paying attention to your breath - helped heavy drinkers cut back, according to a study out of University College London. Dr. Judson Brewer, director of research at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School showed that using awareness techniques such as mindfulness were effective at getting people to quit drinking. If you're a regular drinker, starting the New Year sober is usually harder than just setting a resolution. Thank your brain for that. If you want to cut back, or give up drinking for good, cultivating mindfulness might be the key to quitting. A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia's West Java province on Thursday (Dec 8). The country's geophysics agency said, prompting residents in areas near the epicentre to flee their homes in panic. Last month, a shallow 5.6-magnitude struck the city of Cianjur, also in West Java. A suspected Islamic militant suicide bomber killed a police officer and wounded 10 other people in an attack on a police station in the Indonesian city of Bandung. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event. Mindfulness practices may be of benefit to trauma survivors. Research findings show that mindfulness can help with problems and symptoms often experienced by survivors. Officials say there are 26 foreign nationals among the deceased.The tragedy is one of the deadliest peacetime accidents in South Korea’s history. In recent years, the Sewol ferry tragedy about more than 300 people died — including 250 high school students. Pain, loss and traumatic events are part of the human experience, yet most of us don’t talk about that part of our lives. According to a Health Care Policy report from Harvard Medical School, approximately 60% Americans experience at least one traumatic event in their lifetime.Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a disorder that develops in some people who have experienced a shocking, scary, or dangerous event.Some of these individuals may go on to develop PTSD, a condition marked by intense, disturbing thoughts and feelings related to a traumatic experience that last long after the traumatic event has ended. A recent study of the research finds that Mindfulness may provide relief from post-traumatic symptoms such as anxiety, sleep disturbance, and difficulty concentrating. The Diamond Sutra (Sanskrit: Vajracchedikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra) is one of the most important sutras in Buddhist philosophy and is highly valued in both traditional Chinese and Japanese societies. Originally written in Sanskrit, it has been translated into many languages, including Mandarin and English. In the practice of mindfulness, the first thing to do is to empty the mind and get rid of all troubles, and only then we can develop the unsurpassed bodhicitta of perfect enlightenment. This mind is not attached to form, nor to sound, smell, taste, touch, or dharma. It should not be attached everywhere, and only our mindful heart can be perfect and unobstructed. She had pledged to serve her people, which she fulfilled through a combination of skill and a sense of duty. After days of lying-in-state, the body of the late Queen Elizabeth II has made its final journey as part of a grand state funeral.  From the wondrous and miraculous moment when we were conceived, we began the irreversible process of aging,subsequent illness, death, and separation. These are powerful reflections to meditate upon, for you open the heart to what is important. Also, we can send Loving-Kindness to Loved Ones. In the practice of mindfulness, the first thing to do is to empty the mind and get rid of all troubles, and only then we can develop the unsurpassed bodhicitta of perfect enlightenment. This mind is not attached to form, nor to sound, smell, taste, touch, or dharma. It should not be attached everywhere, and only our mindful heart can be perfect and unobstructed. In this episode, I will introduce the content of the Diamond Sutra, and will take all of you to practice mindfulness meditation- Mindful Looking, listening, smelling, and breathing. From the wondrous and miraculous moment when we were conceived, we began the irreversible process of aging,subsequent illness, death, and separation. These are powerful reflections to meditate upon, for you open the heart to what is important. It is for freedom that God has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be encumbered once more by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1). People should be free in any circumstances. And yet, through force, fraud, and coercion, human traffickers violate this most basic right. Traffickers’ exploitative practices affect every country in the world, including Cambodia, by diminishing and destroying our communities, sense of security, and the global economy. During the Khmer Rouge, all religious practices were forbidden. The pro-Vietnamese communist regime that ruled Cambodia in the 1980s encouraged Buddhism in a limited way, and Theravada Buddhism was restored as Cambodia’s state religion in 1993. Almost 20 years of neglect have been difficult to reverse, however, and the religion has not regained the popularity and prestige that it had before 1975. Nonetheless, the social and psychological characteristics often ascribed to the Khmer—individualism, conservatism, patience, gentleness, and lack of concern for material wealth—represent Buddhist ideals toward which Cambodians, especially in rural areas, continue to aspire.  The Diamond Sutra (Sanskrit: Vajracchedikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra) is one of the most important sutras in Buddhist philosophy and is highly valued in both traditional Chinese and Japanese societies. Originally written in Sanskrit, it has been translated into many languages, including Mandarin and English. Recent studies have shown that stress may occur during the COVID-19 pandemic owing to unexpected negative events related to the infection and may trigger more stress than many expected events. COVID-19 patients experience physical stress along with psychological stress due to the uncertainty, and fear associated with COVID-19. Also, the immune system acts as a defensive army that scouts the entire body to protect against pathogens. Emotional strain interferes with immune system functioning. Psychological stress, an emotional stress, can dampen the body’s defense system, leading to an increased sensitivity to many infections.
