Description

In this episode of the Clinician’s Corner, we look at the critical yet subtle differences between stress and trauma, with trauma expert Dr. Aimie Apigian. Together, we explore the very important and distinct ways we need to address these two things clinically, how to listen for cues from clients about which state they are in, and how our own language with clients can either exacerbate a situation or facilitate the healing process.

We discuss:

  • Different clinical approaches you need to take based on a client’s state (of stress or trauma)

  • The physiological process of trauma

  • Why our work as Restorative Wellness Practitioners is so critical to the healing process

  • The different causes of trauma / the trauma response

  • How the trauma response is protective and actually supportive

  • A completely different way to heal trauma (via somatic work / Internal Family Systems)
