Karen shares...
What motivated her to start a business in the first place?
Karen's entrepreneurial spark began as young speaker during her college days. Speaking became a side-hustle until a CEO asked her to teach him how become a better speaker. Then she started getting referrals.
Did she start the business on the side or dive in full-time?
Part-time
What were the first steps that she took?
Initially Karen had referrals after helping the CEO with his speaking skills.
What type of people does she surround herself with?
Karen learned from her husband. She also approached people who she admired if they would teach and share their business experience with her.
What was the low point in her entrepreneurial journey, what did she do to get back on track, and what did she learn from that experience?
There was a period where Karen had no clients and had to dip into her savings to pay her bills. She decided to look back at the things she did that worked and refocused.
One personal habit that contributed to her success?
Every morning Karen says personal affirmations. She also practices gratitude.
What book(s) would she recommend aspiring entrepreneurs read?
How To Live A Life With No Excuses by Karen Donaldson
The One Thing by Gary Keller
What advice would she give to someone who is starting their journey into entrepreneurship?
Make a decision but do not wait for perfection. Perfect along the way. You want what you're offering to be substantial enough but not perfect. Be conscious and aware of how you define perfection because a lot of the time perfection equals no action at all. Reach out and ask for help and support when you need help.
