#149 Billy Walsh // Building Irish boxing, High Performance, Coaching, Team USA & More
Description
On episode 149 I am delighted to be joined by Head Coach at Team USA boxing Billy Walsh. From humble beginnings in Wexford to becoming a world renowned coach and mentor, Walsh's journey is a testament to his passion for the sport and pursuit of excellence. Billy provides insights into managing an athlete in the ring, building the Irish High Performance boxing unit from sleeping on the floor of the gym to olympic gold medals and altering his accent for his new athletes in Colarado. He also offers a fantastic insight in managing and communicating with his athletes in the ring. As an athlete he competed in the 1988 Summer Olympics and has multiple Irish titles to his name. He began as Head coach of the Irish High Performance Boxing programme in 2003 and in 2016 was awarded IBA Coach of the year (Amateur). He moved to the USA and is now tasked with building the USA into a new boxing powerhouse. Billy was a joy to learn from and I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation.
