#3 Sam Delaney - Diary of a Sober CEO
Description
Welcome to this latest episode of Diary of a Sober CEO with Sam Delaney, Journalist Broadcaster and Author - his latest book ‘Sort Your Head Out - Mental Health Without All The Bollocks’ is a best seller.
Sam loves to talk and write about issues surrounding mental health and addiction. He also consults with businesses on how to improve mental health conversations among employees so when I had the opportunity to get him on the show I was all over it!!
Sam, has worked across the whole spectrum of media, he has written for The Daily Telegraph, NME, Q, Grazia, Cosmopolitan, the New Statesman, The Guardian, Observer, The Sunday Times, Independent, and numerous others and he has spent years as a broadcaster both in radio and TV. He has hosted numerous shows on BBC 5Live, BBC London and talkSPORT and presented documentaries for BBC Three and Channel 4. Sam Delaney's News Thing was a television programme that aired every Saturday night from November 2015 until June 2018.From 2016-2018 he hosted the drive time show on Talk Radio, covering the Brexit referendum, two general elections and the 2016 US Presidential Election, live from Washington DC. Sam was also once editor-in-chief of Heat Magazine & Comedy Central UK.
If you listened to the last episode you’ll know again it's taken ages but fortunately I've actually recorded two episodes since then and promise to get number 4 out in the next couple of weeks. I was also joined on the show by Ben Williams who it was actually amazing to witness as he actually 'came out' publically as in recovery from addiction - I think that is such a privilege and something very special as more leaders or people with public profiles need to do this to break down the stigmat attached, to what is as I always say, a silent issue.
On this show we kick around what it was like in the 'good old days' of active alcoholism and addiction and how some things like the trappings of success (a job, still having a home and 'thinking' we are functioning) can keep us from making the changes needed, seeking help and living what for Sam, Ben and me and many many others, are amazing fruitful and successful sober lives.
We do get a chance to also kick around the word recovery i.e. 'Recovery Confidence' which is the organisation Ben and I work on together (in our spare time) and we agreed and nailed the new initiative that now has its own life which is 'Sober Confident' - this is something that football stadiums, restaurants and bars need to watch out for this at a venue near you...!!!!
I really hope you enjoy it!
Jason
