#33. Olympics.com - Benny Bonsu - Structuring the Olympic Channel: specificities and opportunities
Description
At a time when professional athletes are becoming more and more their own media, the pioneer sports competition still has a huge role to play media-wise.
For this new LeCorner episode, we had the pleasure of receiving Benny Bonsu, Director of Daily Content, at the International Olympic Committee (Olympics.com">Olympics.com & Olympic Channel).
Ghanaian-born and London-raised, she spent 16 years as a broadcast journalist and writer for the NBA before joining IOC 2 years ago. She also was the Head of Editorial for Women’s Sports at GiveMeSport, where she led a successful coverage of Women’s Sports in the UK.
Through her inspiring path, she understood the importance of storytelling in delivering content, one of the Olympic Channel pillars.
How to turn this storytelling into an effective content strategy? And what are the main specificities and challenges of structuring the Olympic channel, especially during the Olympiad?
In this episode, you learn about :
- Benny’s inspiring path: from Ghana to the world
- The considerable gap to fill between sports actors and sports organizations
- Communicating for the Olympics: amazing and… challenging!
- Olympic Channel: on a mission to educate
- Olympic Channel’s user-generated content
Recommendations (Books): Black Cake - Charmaine Wilkerson / The Dawn of Everything, A New History of Humanity - David Graeber and David Wengrow
