Description

I get Gabriel's experience of colonization and erasure and his feelings of alienation within his own family for the experience of assimilation. But doesn't your identity come from your mother, as well? What about the erasure if all your female ancestors? And why idealize and seek to cling to an abuser, who abused your mother? Why seek to cling to the culture that taught that man to be an abuser of women? It's kind of a betrayal.
