Critic Reviews:
Praise for Barbara Taylor Bradford: "Queen of the genre." (The Sunday Times)
"Few novelists are as consummate as Barbara Taylor Bradford at keeping the reader turning the page. She is one of the world's best at spinning yarns." (The Guardian)
"As romantic and thrilling as the rest." (The Independent on Sunday)

Meh
I've loved other books by Bradford (specifically the Emma Harte series), so had a lot of hope for this one. Perhaps I would have liked this more if I had not read her other books. As it is, this one is lacking.
The characters are flat. Audra is the only one that is fleshed out much at all, and that is only because most of the book is about her. Even then, Audra never really develops as a character. It feels like Bradford did not know what to do with her, so she wrote a lot of different things, hoping it would all come out in the end. (It doesn't.)
Christine is the perfect example of "show, don't tell." The reader learns everything she does, but nothing about how she feels. Her "act of will" (giving up painting for fashion design) is too easy. Her whole life until that point is painting, then she throws it away without a second thought. Bradford writes a long, in-depth love affair with Miles, then throws it away as well. (We're told Christine cried for him for 6 months, but that time is skipped completely. Nothing is written about it.) Even her marriage and the birth of her daughter are skipped. (We go from her meeting her husband to 7 years later in a page.)
Overall, not a bad book. Just not all that great.

Is it An Act of Will Worth Persuing?
Act of Will is one of Barbara Taylor Bradfordâs earlier novels. This novel has recently been added in ebook format. So I had a chance to revisit a novel that I read a few years ago, and share my thoughts on the new format.
Synopsis:
Audra and her brothers have lost everything, and are asked to move in with their first cousin. This cousin does not care for Audra or her brothers and wants revenge for her motherâs past actions. Her brothers are sent to Australia and Audra is sent to work in a hospital. She goes onto to become a nurse and then a nanny. She then meets Vincent Crowther and they form a family. Audra is determined to be financially sound in her career and family. She then passes this trait to her daughter and then her granddaughter. How the ultimate act of will l impact this family?
My Thoughts:
I have read this novel before. I enjoyed it the first time around. I am not so sure this time. I think it is because I have seen how much this writer has grown since her first novels. I thought the story was interesting and had a compelling plot. This plot is a little similar to A Woman of Substance.
