Confused and dazed by her new circumstances, Gemcie heads for the high Sierras hoping the majestic spires that captured the heart of the father she never met will provide the answers she seeks.
She finds strength and solace riding solo on the John Muir Trail, but a bear attack ends her time of introspection and places her in the care of a solitary cowboy manning a fire lookout. Brady shows her love and gives her the courage to get back in the saddle. Haunted by images of Marshal being abused by his owners, Gemcie returns to rescue him and fly high with him once more.
Ballou's prose gallops ahead at breakneck speed as she takes you along on this wild ride.

Loved the book!
I finished the book a few days ago and still miss the characters and wonder where the story line will go next. I loved hearing about the main character Jemsies journey and her adventures and how she grows, learns and heals. The author does a great job telling a story that is both realistic and exciting. Clearly she knows the equestrian world, so as a rider myself, I felt like I was right there in the arena with Jemsie. One of my favorite things about the story isnt a fairy tail. Jemsie struggles to find herself and ultimately does, but not without stumbling and dealing with a number of obstacles. The pace of the story is quick and Ms. Ballou takes you to a few destinations you didnt expect to go. You really feel like you are part of the journey.
The narrator has a nice voice and does a good job changing it slightly so each characters personality comes through.
I will be recommending this book to many people!
Enjoyable
After an equestrian accident, Gemcie has a long recovery ahead of her, both physically and mentally, along with the betrayal of her husband. Though she recovers physically and come to turns with her husband's betrayal but mentally...her fear of riding in competition has not.
Finally, learning the truth of her father...one she never met..she heads to the mountains her father rode off to and loved in hopes of healing emotionally. It was then, she met Brady, who came to her rescue of a wild bear. It was through him and with him she comes to turns with many things in her life. Will she be able to ride in competition again or not?
This is a great story of struggle and survival, the author did a great job keeping you involved. The narrator, Scott Glennon, did a fabulous job narrating this story, I enjoyed how easy he switched from one character to the next, giving them a life of their own,
Beautiful story
This was an amazing story of crashed dreams and rising from the ashes. Linda Ballou takes the listener into a beautiful wild country and over fences so vividly. Scott Glennon narrated like no one else can. This story was definitely worth listening, I have to rate it as 10 stars out of 5.
Horse Lover Delight!
What an awesome book. I found it to be such a realistic portrayal of what sometimes happens behind the scenes in the show jumping world. Unfortunately there are a lot of shady things that happen in the competition world. The author was able to write such wonderful imagery into this book along with conveying so many emotions and details.
