Daily Zohar 4986

Holy Zohar text. Daily Zohar -4986

Zohar Lech Lacha

Continued from previous DZ

#193

And he asks: What is “מִן הַמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה שָׁם”, “From the place where you are” (Genesis 13:14 )? And he says: Its meaning is the place where you cleaved at the beginning and were adorned with complete faith (emunah), that is, north, south, east, and west. These are the journeys he traveled at the beginning, as it is written: “וַיֵּלֶךְ לְמַסָּעָיו”, “And he went on his journeys” (Genesis 13:3). As explained (in #165 above), this is the secret of nefesh, ruach, neshama, and chaya, see there. North is the secret of Binah and Neshama. South is the secret of Chochmah and Chaya. East is the secret of Tiferet and ruach. West is the secret of Malchut and nefesh. And it is written: “הָלוֹךְ וְנָסוֹעַ הַנֶּגְבָּה”, “Going on still toward the south” (Genesis 12:9), etc. These are the upper levels with which he was adorned with complete faith at the beginning.

Notes:

This Zohar passage describes Abraham’s initial cleaving to faith in the Land of Israel (Malchut) as involving four directions: north (Binah, neshama), south (Chokhmah, chaya), east (Tiferet, ruach), and west (Malchut, nefesh). This continues Abraham’s restoration of divine unity post-Lot’s separation, emphasizing his spiritual journeys.

#194

And then he was given good news that it would not depart from him and from his children forever, as it is written: “כִּי אֶת כָּל הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה רוֹאֶה לְךָ אֶתְּנֶנָּה וּלְזַרְעֲךָ”, “For all the land that you see, I will give to you and to your seed” (Genesis 13:15 ). And he asks: What is “that you see”? And he says: This is the first level that was revealed to him, which is the level of nefesh, as you say: “לַה’ הַנִּרְאֶה אֵלָיו”, “To YHVH who appeared to him” (Genesis 12:7). And for this reason, it is said “that you see,” because this first level, which is the Nukva, includes all the levels, and all the levels are seen in her. And for this reason, it is said: “כִּי אֶת כָּל הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה רוֹאֶה”, “For all the land that you see.”

Notes:

Abraham receives assurance that the Land of Israel (Malchut, Nukva) and its blessings (nefesh) will remain with him and his descendants forever. The Nukva, as the first level (nefesh), includes all levels (ruach, neshama, chaya), reflecting the zivug with Zeir Anpin. This continues #193’s theme of Abraham’s journeys, aligning with divine levels, restoring faith in the Land.

Main Point: Abraham’s vision of the Land (אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה רוֹאֶה) reveals Nukva (nefesh), encompassing all levels, ensuring its eternal gift to him and his seed through the zivug’s divine light.

#195

Rabbi Elazar was staying at an inn in Lod. And Rabbi Chezkiah was with him there. Rabbi Elazar rose at night to study Torah. Rabbi Chezkiah stood near him, close by, for the place was cramped for them. Rabbi Elazar said to him: In a cramped palace, the companions are found. That is, because they increase in Torah and decrease in work, they are always found in cramped, small inns, for they lack the money to rent spacious houses.

Notes:

Rabbi Elazar and Rabbi Chezkiah are studying Torah in a cramped inn in Lod. The “cramped palace” reflects the companions’ dedication to Torah, prioritizing spiritual wealth over material, contrasting with Lot’s worldly pursuits (#178, #192).
