Everyone talks about love. We celebrate it on wedding days, post about it on social media, and chase after it in a thousand different ways. But the Bible gives us a deeper, more durable definition of love. It shows us a love that still stands on a random Tuesday when life isn’t picture-perfect.

In 1 John 3:11 –24, we learn that real, biblical love is a defining mark of genuine faith in Jesus. John contrasts the destructive jealousy of Cain with the sacrificial love of Christ, showing that love cannot coexist with envy, rivalry, or hate. Instead, real love reflects Jesus — it steps toward the needs of others, even when it costs us something. John also teaches that this kind of love becomes the evidence that we truly belong to God. When our hearts doubt or struggle, our loving actions — empowered by the Spirit — reassure us that we are alive in Christ.
