The Hold Them Accountable political action committee (PAC) on Wednesday sent an email, purporting to be from State Representative Aftyn Behn (D-Nashville), to share the latest Emerson College Polling survey that showed her just two points behind the Republican nominee, U.S. Army veteran and Tennessee state official Matt Van Epps.
While federal election laws strictly prohibit any coordination on independent expenditures between candidates or their campaigns and unaffiliated PACs, and Hold Them Accountable claims both in the email and on its website that no candidate or committee authorized their statements, the PAC's email explicitly purported to be from Behn.
