This is episode 68 of The Truth Tank.

This Episode is the first Weekly Tank. The Weekly Tank will look at current events, sport, strange stories, entertainment and more in-between the bigger shows. In this episode, We will be looking at Disney’s decision to discontinue physical media in Australia, New Zealand and most of the Southern Hemisphere due to declining sales.

No one can deny there has been a decline in physical media sales, however Disney has a vested interest in signing up as many people as possible to Disney+ hence their and other Streaming Giants like Netflix crusade to destroy physical media to drive subscriptions over to them.

The last Disney DVD/Blu Ray to be released was Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in 2023. Here lies the problem, Disney own 20th Century Fox, Lucasfilm and Marvel and their vast collections of legacy IPs such as Star Wars, Aliens, Planet of the Apes & Indiana Jones to name a few.

In recent years they have pumped out theatrical released sequels and no physical copies, so if you want to buy in the southern hemisphere you'd have to source them from overseas retailers. If a film is released in a cinemas, it should be available to buy everywhere, unfortunately this trend will continue around the world. Can Film Fans and directors like Christopher Nolan help turn the decline in physical media sales and save DVDs/BRs for future generations and film history?
