This episode is a part of a two-part series. It is for change agents and leaders who want to learn more about the health inequities and disparities that Black women face.
For their Leadership Triangle Regional 2023 graduation program project, five cohort members decided they wanted to shine a light on a topic not often discussed: black women's health. To learn more about the issue, a combination of team members attended A Better Wake Town Halls: Health Equity Town Hall at Apex Senior Center on April 11, 2023, had a conversation with Aya Birth & Community Wellness team members on April 17, 2023, via Zoom, and visited HIstoric Stagville on April 21, 2023, for a guided tour.
In Episode 51, Chrissy Sailstad and Titilayo Somorin share their insights on the history of health disparities and team member's experience visiting Historic Stagville, "a state historic site that includes the the remnants of the one of the largest plantations in North Carolina." You also have the opportunity to hear from all team members in the introduction about who they are and why this topic is important to them.
In Episode 52, Penny Carroll and Kim Glenn share their insights on present-day health disparities and team member's experience attending A Better Wake Town Hall on Health Equity hosted by the Triangle DEI Alliance x Raleigh Chamber and having a virtual meeting with staff of Aya Birth & Community Wellness, which is an organization that focuses on, "creating a culture of community-centered maternal and reproductive health care for people of color." You also have the opportunity to hear all team members share a stat you should know during the introduction.
