Ep. 16 - Research Buddies - Finding a CURE using Drosophila
Description
Research at the FAU Lab Schools K-12 programs consists of a multi-disciplinary approach that creates translational research opportunities that begin with the imagination and then move into the laboratory, and publications, ultimately benefiting society! Today we will look into Drosophila Research - you probably think, what type of research?!?! But After you hear from my guests today, you will understand why these tiny fruit flies are crucial to their research. Karis Hong, 17, is working on a research project on the effects of the SARS-CoV-2 gene, and Julia McDuffee, 18, is researching the optimization of biological fluorescence imaging at Max Planck. Dr. Jennifer Krill teaches neurophysiology courses and is the instructor and mentor to these students.
