Therapists’ Take on Authenticity as the 2023 Word of the Year. Merriam-Webster has named “Authentic” as 2023’s Word of the Year. You may or may not recall that “Gaslighting” as the word of the year for 2022. It is fitting that a word laced with truth and empowerment (I.e., authentic) has now dethroned a word born out of lies and deception (I.e., gaslighting).
