As a chance to explore in example how some of the attachment and trauma patterns we talked about in last week's episode might hypothetically play out in relationships in middle age, minus kids, this week I thought we'd take a look into how some of that patterning is actually perfectly demonstrated in the evolution of one of my favourite movie characters of all time; Captain Pete Mitchell eg" Maverick"from the Top Gun Franchise. We're going to take a deep dive into the evolution of his relationships over time, with both Charlotte "Charlie" Blackwood, from the first Top Gun movie, his old flame revisited in the sequel Top Gun Maverick, Penny Benjamin, the fabled Admiral's Daughter who he allegedly " went ballistic with" pre first movie and what, hypothetically MIGHT have played out in the gap in between.
