Description

I met a guy at a networking event who did marketing and sales for a boutique hotel in the city. He pitched me what I thought was a great idea. We would partner to offer photo tours to his guests when they came to town.

We spent a boatload of time and energy trying to promote it, but it never really worked. Years later, it occurred to me why. Most of his guests weren’t my customers. I was talking to the wrong people.

If you start to make any traction building your personal brand or online business, you will get lots of salespeople, consultants, and strategists pitching you their “great ideas” for advertising and marketing your business. If you aren’t clear of your ideal customer, they will waste lots of your time or worse your money.

In episode 004, Finding your ideal customer, we started discussing how you would identify your ideal customer. If you haven’t listened to it yet, that’s your homework.

If you are now planning how to acquire them, create value for them, or retain them, the best way to get the insights that will help you find your ideal customer and determine what they want, it’s best to go right to the source.
