Four Arrested in Carthage Drug Bust

Four people were arrested and charged Tuesday, November 28, 2023, in Carthage.
The Carthage Police Department along with Leake County Sheriff’s Office, Attala County Sheriff’s Office, MS Bureau of Investigation, and officials from the Attorney General’s Office served a search warrant at a home on Old Canton Rd. Law enforcement found methamphetamine, marijuana, firearms, and other drug paraphernalia during the search.
Baniya Walker, 35 of Carthage, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Jimmy Barela Jr., 30 of Carthage, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Jevon Griffin, 29 of Carthage, was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of marijuana while in possession of a firearm.
Ronald Towner, 35 of Carthage, was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
“We are continuing to work diligently to put a stop to drug activity in the city of Carthage. It’s a joint effort between our department and the Leake County Sheriff’s Office to prevent drug activity in Carthage and Leake County. I do want to thank the Leake County Sheriff’s Office, the Attala County Sheriff’s Office, MBI, and the AG’s office who assisted us in carrying out this search warrant.” says Carthage Chief of Police, Billy McMillan.
