GCC summit in Bahrain focuses on collective security and backs Gaza ceasefire efforts
Update: 2025-12-03
Description
Leaders of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) met in Manama, Bahrain, for their annual summit. Security and economic cooperation were top priorities. This was the first full gathering since Israel’s airstrike on Hamas leaders in Qatar in September. The GCC emphasised collective security, stating any threat to one member is a threat to all. Support for international efforts to end the Gaza war and provide aid to Palestinians was reaffirmed. Economic diversification and progress towards a Gulf Common Market and Customs Union were also discussed. Experts note that regional rivalries and tensions with Iran continue to challenge the GCC’s goals. Al Jazeera’s Charles Stratford reports.
