Guest: Prof. Iftach Yacoby, The School of Plant Sciences and Food Security, TAU

Our guest in this episode is framer-turned scientist Prof. Iftach Yacoby of the School of Plant Sciences and Food Security at TAU. His mission is to solve both problems at once: Food security and energy security. How is going to achieve this goal? That’s exactly whet this conversation is all about. Fellow researchers from Tel Aviv University explained his idea: To use green algae as tiny solar-powered factories that can produce two things we urgently need: clean hydrogen fuel and protein-rich food. By growing algae with sunlight and water, his team can generate renewable energy while also creating nutritious biomass that can be used as food or feed. This way, the same system helps tackle both climate change and global hunger at once. Hence, micro-algae are a genuine green coin, with one side representing energy security and the other food security.
