Investigation of Model A Steering Stiffness/Binding
Description
After the last show the Model A steering became stiff on the way home.
The Sport Coupe has the two tooth “better” steering box.

</figure>Some of this is down to low oil in the steering box. The Model A is notorious for oil leaking in this area. The box was fully topped off with gear oil and indeed was low.
Having borrowed a drag link socket Snap-On A-17 (15/16,1/2 drive screwdriver) diagnosis began.

Whilst the drag link was disconnected the front end was checked for any binding and seemed OK

And then the disconnected steering box was tested for binding (best played picture in picture)

Once again, it seems nothing too much to worry about here.
The original intention was to adjust the steering box to try and remove the binding. However after topping off the box, removing and refitting and greasing the draglink things seem acceptable. Time for a test and a comparison with another Model A. Watch this space!
