Rescuing a 1970 Ford Cortina Part 2 (First Start in 45 Years!)
Description

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large">
</figure>Back on the Cortina, contact breakers have been cleaned. Next job is an oil change, better safe than sorry as the oil has been in the car for 45 years!
<figure class="wp-block-image size-large">
</figure>Some years ago I had a Triumph Herald, luckily the 20/50 purchased at that time was available, so in it went.
Next up was to disconnect the ignition and spin up to make sure there is oil pressure.
<figure class="wp-block-video"></figure>
Oil pressure was all good, well at least enough to put out the idiot light
The time has come to see if the Cortina will spring into life after 45 years tucked away in a lockup garage.
<figure class="wp-block-video"></figure>
Andβ¦β¦ after a slightly sticky starter it burst into life, on three cylinders to start but soon on all four.
<figure class="wp-block-video"></figure>
No carburettor adjustment required and it even idled cleanly on the 45 year old fuel. The engine is very quiet and we suspect that it was replaced not long before the car was laid up.
<figure class="wp-block-video"></figure>
Unfortunately we had to pay the price for the diesel and transmission fluid mix that we put down the bores for protection prior to starting, things got a little Smokey!
<figure class="wp-block-video"></figure>
We finished off the day by seeing if the gauges worked and found that appear to do so, along with the horn, this however sounds a little unwell
Back soon!
