Confession

The confession is said privately. The audio file begins after confession.

Most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you

in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done,

and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,

have mercy on us and forgive us;

that we may delight in your will,

and walk in your ways,

to the glory of your Name. Amen.

A brief silence is kept

Grant your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Psalm 95:1-7; 96:9,13

O come, let us sing to the Lord;*

let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving*

and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God,*

and a great King above all gods.

In his hand are the caverns of the earth,*

and the heights of the hills are his also.

The sea is his, for he made it,*

and his hands have molded the dry land.

O come, let us worship and bow down,*

and kneel before the Lord our Maker.

For he is our God,*

and we are the people of his pasture

and the sheep of his hand.

Today, if you hear his voice,*

do not harden your heart as in the rebellion.

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness;*

let the whole earth stand in awe of him.

For he comes, for he comes to judge the earth*

and with righteousness to judge the world

and the peoples in his faithfulness.

Psalter

The appointed Psalm is read together

Psalm 77

1  I cry out to God with my voice, *

I cry aloud, and he hears me.

2  In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord;

in the night my hand is stretched out without ceasing; *

my soul refuses to be comforted.

3  When I remember God, I groan; *

when I meditate, my spirit grows faint.

4  You hold my eyelids open; *

I am so troubled that I cannot speak.

5  I consider the days of old, *

the years of long ago.

6  I call to remembrance my song in the night; *

I meditate within my heart,

and my spirit makes a diligent search.

7  Will the Lord reject forever, *

and never again show his favor?

8  Has his mercy forever ceased? *

Are his promises at an end for all time?

9  Has God forgotten to be gracious? *

Has he in anger withdrawn his compassion?

10  Then I said, “I will appeal to this: *

to the years of the right hand of the Most High.”

11  I will remember the works of the LORD; *

yes, I will remember your wonders of old.

12  I will meditate on all your work, *

and consider all your mighty deeds.

13  Your way, O God, is holy. *

What god is great like our God?

14  You are the God who works wonders; *

you have made known your power among the peoples.

15  With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, *

the children of Jacob and Joseph.

16  The waters saw you, O God,

the waters saw you and were afraid; *

indeed, the deeps trembled.

17  The clouds poured out water;

the skies resounded with thunder; *

your arrows flashed on every side.

18  The voice of your thunder was in the whirlwind;

the lightning lit up the world; *

the earth trembled and shook.

19  Your way was through the sea,

your path through the mighty waters; *

yet your footsteps were not seen.

20  You led your people like a flock *

by the hand of Moses and Aaron. †
