Gerhard Swart was the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Optimal Energy, and helped pioneer the JOULE electric vehicle project, an ambitious South African project to create a world-class electric vehicle which came to a premature end before electric vehicles became mainstream. He has written a book - Hope Arising - which chronicles the journey, along with his personal reflections on the venture. He speaks to Lester Kiewir ahead of the book’s upcoming launch.
