Description

Many professional musicians wear black tie to their performances, but Casey Paulozzi sports a black tricorn hat, a waistcoat and a white powdered wig. Paulozzi is a member of the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps . He's performed for Presidential inaugurations, heads of state and even the Pope. He joined Classical IPR from his home in Washington, D.C. to do some bugling. He played an excerpt of "Troop in Review," the music that the ensemble performs when foreign dignitaries visit the White House. Paulozzi explained that learning how to wear and take care of his uniform was just as important as learning the music and marching style. Paulozzi was then joined by his husband Nik Taylor, a research librarian at the Library of Congress . The two met when they were summer staff members at Interlochen Arts Camp. Listen to their conversation with Classical IPR below. The audio includes several appearances by Bradley the corgi, who expressed his distaste for bugling in his house.
