Even with no war on, there are always battles to fight.
A cease-fire in the war with Hanover leaves Lieutenant Alexis Carew on half-pay, in-atmosphere, and with her ship laid up in ordinary until called upon once more for the needs of the Service. She was, at least, lucky enough to be in her home star system when her last ship, HMS Nightingale, paid off, unlike much of her former crew.
Shes left to help manage her family lands, though still with no certainty shell be allowed to inherit them. It would be a tranquil, peaceful life, if not for the influx of asteroid miners seeking their fortunes, the uncertainties of her inheritance, and the nagging certainty that her current life is not what she really wants.

The next one better be soon!
The story was great as always, and the narrator is absolutely amazing.
There's more story left, without giving any spoilers. And I can't wait for it. While this series does require some suspension of disbelief on the science it's almost like reading pre-1950's sci-fi, where just maybe Venus is a jungle world of Amazon's, or Mars has nude princesses running about.

Would you consider the audio edition of Privateer to be better than the print version?
I've never had the opportunity to read the print version. I do believe that Elizabeth Klett's performance adds to my enjoyment of these stories.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Alexis, her indomitable determination to do what she sees as right and honorable in spite of any provocation to do otherwise.
What about Elizabeth Kletts performance did you like?
An interesting accent and a very reasonable attempt to enhance the reading to further the author's intent.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Alexis first admits to herself that she too loves or at least sees some good in the existence of the creature.
Any additional comments?
I eagerly await the second half of Privateer as well as any subsequent Alexis Carew stories. I especially love the author's notes noting the parallels he makes with our own maritime military history.

Another great book. This wonderful series continues with book 5. Alexis Carew is still my hero. In this book, she finds herself in command of a larger ship with more guns. Her and her lads are off on another exciting adventure. This is an excellent book that highlights Alexis Carew leadership and fighting skills.

Great follow up story.
So this is "Steam Punk" Sci-fi? I like it. If I can revel in Song of Fire and Ice, I can certainly dig Alexis Carew.
