SPECIAL DAILY EDITION- Essential You
Update: 2020-03-25
Description
Essential You: Your social capital won’t grow in quality and value until you become vulnerable with those in this new space that you are creating. There is no getting around it.
Like me- The most important thing you can do to start on this journey is to first LIKE ME. Not me Chris Williams but the you me. Be ok with yourself first. Give yourself grace and forgiveness. Some people go to work and try to mask their accent or feel like they have to talk just like everyone else. If you have a southern draw, be ok with that. Being perfect is not sexy. In business there are some investors who won’t even talk to you unless you have failed at least 3 times. I heard a quote that says other peoples opinions are none of my business. When you take this journey, part of the success you will experience is knowing that being you is important.
Ok to be first- From early childhood, we always wanted to be first if we have siblings, first to open presents at Christmas, open the door, etc. But then something happens when it comes to the matters of the heart where we immediately shut down that idea of being first. Everywhere else in life we want to be first, in business with a new product, with the new BMW off the showroom floor, first in the concert to get good seats. But we cringe at the idea of being first to say I love you, Im sorry, I am hurting, need help, I don’t know what to do. The truth is it shouldn’t matter who is first, what matters more is did you do it. Did you take the step and do. Lots of times we reason ourselves out because we make it about the other person. "Well they should apologize", "They should come to me", etc. Start processing now and make it a habit.
Give it time- Your goal at this point is to create new relationships or deepen the ones you have. However you choose, your ability to be authentic with them is crucial. And its your responsibility to give it time. If you are changing the dynamics of a relationship that you have had for years, don’t expect so much up front. Stay focused on your growth and not the result that you want out of others. So many times we get frustrated and stop because we want others to be and act a certain way. This is not about them, this is about essential you. Give it time, it will happen but stay consistent. Practice make permanent.
