Show Me the Money! Navigating Pay Increase Conversations in the Corporate World
Description
THIS IS WHAT TO BRING TO THE CONVERSATION ABOUT ASKING FOR A RAISE:
- Approach the conversation with your “progress report”, (for example working in social you can refer to the business goals/objectives/what you’ve been tasked with and show the data behind what you’ve done) - Your manager is looking to determine the ROI on the work you’re doing
- Be respectful, polite, and patient in the convo. Try not to be super nervous and emotional
IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU DESERVE MORE MONEY, USE THESE TIPS AS EVIDENCE:
- Do some research on average salaries, you can use Indeed’s salary calculator or Glassdoor to determine your worth!
- Ask people in your field, or coworkers what they’re making (we love income transparency).
- Blame it on the economy and inflation and say that is a reason to raise your rates!
- You could see what other companies are offering for similar positions, and respectfully share to your current company that you'll be applying to those if they don’t give you a raise.
IF THEY CAN’T GIVE YOU MORE MONEY FOR WHAT YOU’RE CURRENTLY DOING BUT YOU STILL WANT TO MAKE MORE MONEY, HERE’S HOW:
Offer to do more! If you’re only doing organic social, maybe you offer to do paid. If you’re only doing Facebook/Instagram, mention the brand showing up on TikTok or another social outlet.
