From radio to Risk Management - it's safe to say that Steve's journey into the world of Corporate Risk Management is both unique and fascinating in equal measures. Although he began his working life as a radio producer, Steve landed a role at York University in Canada as a Y2K Project Support Coordinator in the late 1990s. After the project ended, Steve stayed at York University for 20 years, building out the University's Risk function and leaving as Director, Risk Services.
A "risk jockey", in this installment Steve shares with us how his background, the rewards and challenges of setting up a department from scratch, the uniqueness of working for a University, the importance of coaching and equally being coached, what you need to know when presenting to a board to make your wins as a Risk Manager and the key skills that enabled him to be successful in his career.
Mike and Steve also discuss the RIMS CRMP, including Steve's involvement with it and what it brings to an individual's career.
