TMJ 030 - Tone Deafness: Can It Be Cured? With Maggie Czajak
Description
The Music Journal Podcast is a show that documents trending musical events and topics as they happen. Our host, Wes Yee is a music producer and artist, himself. Because of this he’s been able to build an extremely broad network of amazing artists, musicians and people in the industry, and on this show he brings some of them on to chat about not only the trends, but also how you can apply them to your own career if you’re an aspiring music producer or artist.
Maggie and I have been friends for a little while now. We originally met at a housewarming party at my apartment about a year ago, and found quickly that we had good musical chemistry.
You can see her on some of each other's Instagram videos and we collaborated on a song called "Numb," which is the first track of an old EP of mine called "NI.Ne"
I didn't know what to expect the first time Maggie asked me to jam and told me that she could sing, but when I heard her I was blown away. Her voice sounds like Amy Winehouse reincarnated with her own unique hip hop flavor.
We talk about a lot of different things on today's episode, like how we constructed our song, Numb. We talk about the process of songwriting but also the phenomenon of tone deafness. Maggie mentions that her younger sister unfortunately can't sing the same way her and her parents can.
We talk about where tone deafness potentially comes from and if it can or can't be cured.
