Terminal Lucidity - A Surge of Awareness Before Death
Description
The phenomena of a sudden awakening by a terminally ill patient in the hours, days, or even weeks prior to death. In many cases, patients who were completely incapable of coherent conversation are suddenly reverted to their prior selves.
While the phenomena aren’t new, anecdotal tales exist as far back as Hippocrates and probably further, the term is. It was coined by Dr. Michael Nahm in the Journal of Near-Death Studies in 2009.
Today, we talk about this bizarre surge of awareness immediately preceding death in some patients and the comfort it brings to those who love them.
