The Blue Whale challenge is a purported  suicide game gaining attention around the world over the past year.  In this "game"  the players are given various tasks by an anonymous administrator over a 50-day period, ranging from isolation to self-harm and ultimately suicide,. Believed to have originated in Russia, the game has allegedly claimed over a 100 lives in Russia and Europe.

Journalist and Youth Advocate, Anne Collier explains the orgins, myths and realities of this phenomenon.  Anne is founder and executive director of The Net Safety Collaborative, the national nonprofit organization that runs iCanHelpline.org, the U.S.'s new social media helpline for schools. She blogs at NetFamilyNews.org.
