The festival of Navratri
Description
In this segment, host Sowjanya takes us through the history & significance of celebrating the Navratri festival.
Navratri, a vibrant and devout Hindu festival, celebrates the power of the divine feminine, honouring Goddess Durga in her various manifestations over nine nights and ten days. Observed twice a year—Chaitra Navratri in March-April and Sharad Navratri in September-October—it symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. Devotees engage in rigorous fasting, devotional songs, and intricate dance forms like Garba and Dandiya, clad in colourful traditional attire. Each day holds significance, dedicated to different incarnations of the goddess, fostering spiritual reflection and cultural unity. Navratri, a time of joyous festivities, illuminates India with exuberance, spirituality, and collective devotion.
