Me too. I’ve spent the better part of my professional life exploring how we live in an era of climate crisis. I can speak to the emotional and practical aspects of navigating climate concerns while raising kids. Our kids will inherit a world shaped by the climate crisis, but as parents we have the power to prepare them. I spent four years, researching and reporting how, and put it all into my book PARENTING IN A CLIMATE CRISIS: A Handbook for Turning Fear Into Action (Workman, 2/18/25). I spoke with dozens of climate scientists, psychologists, parents and educators, distilling their wisdom into a concise, accessible guide for busy parents. This is not about doom and gloom, it's about acceptance and hope. If the world reaches net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, most climate experts agree that the global temperature will rise by at least 1.5 degrees celsius but fall back by 2100. If every country fulfills its existing climate obligations, the world warms by an average of 2.7 degrees C by 2100, there is a significant drop in global food production, and there are more extreme weather events. So things are going to get weird over the next 80 years. And addressing climate change requires collective action – it’s not up to already frazzled parents!! But that doesn’t mean we’re helpless. There is much we can do to make it more or less likely that they will be able to find joy on this planet and care for it in the best way possible. Among the topics I can discuss: • How the concern about the planet impacted my own decision to become a mom • Working with big feelings about climate change–our kids’ and our own • How empowering our children to contribute in age-appropriate ways helps both the movement and our children's mental health • Specific examples of strategies that parents, educators, and scientists across the country are using in their own homes to raise climate-resilient kids• How to talk about the climate crisis with kids and family and friends, and why talking about the climate crisis is one of the most meaningful actions individuals can take.https://breeshirvell.com/If you are looking for a Personal Coach contact Karen at #YESICAN coaching with Karenkh.yesican1@gmail.com440 526 1530
