Hello, everybody. Welcome back to my YouTube channel. My name is Arian Lagringa, and in today's video, we are going to learn about slang words in English, specifically from my generation, Gen Z.

So what is slang? Slang words and phrases are very casual and their meaning is completely different from what the individual words mean. For example, if I say "keep your cool," that does not mean to stay cold. It literally just means to stay calm. Slang is always changing, too. So, some terms like "what's up," which means hello in English, has been used so much that it's actually an idiom, which means the phrase is totally different from its meaning. So, "what's up" does not mean "what's up," but instead it means hello. But other slang is just trendy, popping up from music or movies just for a little while. Just be careful though, because using trendy slang in a formal place like a job interview, well, you might not come across as professional.

All right, now let's hop into the video and learn some of the most common slang words that you'll hear from the younger generation or just on social media.

Salty

Do you guys know what it means? It doesn't mean that people like to put salt on their food. No, instead, it means someone might get upset or frustrated over a small thing.

Example 1: "My friend got salty because I didn't text him back."

Example 2: "Hey, you're looking a little salty today. What's got you so annoyed?"

Example 3: "Can you believe it? I just paid $20 for a car wash and a bird pooped on my car. I'm super salty."

Thirsty

It doesn't mean you're thirsty for water or for a drink. No, this just means that someone is very desperate for attention.

Example 1: "She's posting a lot of selfies. She's thirsty."

Example 2: "Remember the guy from the bar? He was being super thirsty."

Example 3: "Why are you always desperate for so much attention? Are you thirsty?"

Ghost

(as a verb)

To ghost someone is to stop all communication with them. So, you don't text them, you don't call them, and you don't reply to them. Nothing. It's like you suddenly disappeared.

Example 1: "I thought we had a good date, but then he ghosted me." (This means he completely stopped messaging me.)

Example 2: "He's being super intense. I'm gonna ghost him."

Example 3: "I really miss him. Have you ever had someone completely ghost you?"

Situationship

A situationship is a romantic relationship, but it isn't clearly defined. So, you guys might be more than friends, but there isn't a label on it. So, you're not boyfriend or girlfriend either.

Example 1: "He's not my boyfriend. We're just in a situationship, which means we're romantically involved, yes, of course, but there isn't a label on it."

Example 2: "My brother's in a situationship. But now he's going to ask her to be his girlfriend. They're going to make it official."

Example 3: "I want my man to take the extra step. He's not my boyfriend just yet, but we're more than friends. We're in a situationship."
