Let’s make Mandarin your favorite part of the day. 🌞🎧
🍂 It’s still hot outside — but in China, autumn has already begun!
In this episode, we’ll explore how Chinese seasons work through the lunar calendar and 24 solar terms, starting with today’s special one: 立秋 (lìqiū).
You’ll learn practical Mandarin expressions, useful seasonal vocabulary, and fun traditions like 贴秋膘 (eating meat on the first day of autumn!).
Plus, a quick preview of the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival 🥮
Let’s welcome autumn the Chinese way!
Grammar – 虽然…但是… (suīrán… dànshì…)
Structure:
虽然 A,但是 B – "Although A, but B"
Example:
虽然今天是立秋,但是天气还很热。
"Although today is lìqiū, the weather is still very hot."
Now try this one:
虽然我很忙,但是我还是想学中文。
"Although I’m busy, I still want to learn Chinese."
So what do people in China actually do on 立秋?
北方人有一个说法:贴秋膘 (tiē qiū biāo)。
夏天太热,大家瘦了,所以立秋这天要吃肉,比如红烧肉、炖排骨。
🧡 我小时候,奶奶总会煮一锅红烧肉,说:“秋天来了,要补一补。”
It’s a fun way to “prepare” your body for autumn and winter.
Some families have the tradition of weighing themselves on lìqiū.
看看夏天瘦了多少,然后说:“可以开始吃肉了!” 😂
It’s like a small seasonal ritual — practical and funny.
在南方农村,立秋后人们会把辣椒、玉米、豆子晒在院子里。
It’s called 晒秋 (shài qiū) — autumn drying.
地上、屋顶、墙边,到处都是金色和红色的农作物,特别有秋天的感觉。
1. 吃肉 – Eating Meat2. 称体重 – Weighing Yourself3. 晒秋 – Drying Autumn Crops
Autumn Festival – Mid-Autumn Festival (5–6 mins)
秋天除了节气,还有一个非常重要的节日:中秋节 (Zhōngqiū jié) — Mid-Autumn Festival.
它是在农历八月十五,是家人团聚的节日。
People look at the full moon, eat 月饼 (yuèbǐng – mooncakes), and enjoy time with family.
