Welcome to another week with Your Big Sister! I am so excited to introduce my coach and IFBB Pro Elenoa McCabe! After a solid year of considering taking my love and passion for training to a competitive level, I finally took the leap of faith, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be going through all of this for the first time with Noa! In today’s episode, we talk about what the prep process looks like to get onstage, the misconceptions surrounding bodybuilding, and Noa’s experience with building her coaching brand with Team Mihaly. Her energy is so infectious and I’m really blessed to be able to introduce the very person I manifested to kickstart my journey with bikini bodybuilding.HAPPY MONDAYLove,Your Big Sister@yourbigsisteratx@miampowelll@noamccabe_ifbbpro
The Powell sisters are back! Well 3 out of 4 of them. Emma, Amelia and I are back together in the studio and this week we pulled out one of my favorite games "We're Not Really Strangers" - a fun card game that had us laughing so hard our cheeks hurt, but were also able to form some meaningful conversation out of it too! Whether you're in the car driving or getting ready for your day, this episode will brighten your mood. Happy Monday!Love,Your Big Sister@yourbigsisteratx@miampowelll@emmapowellll@ameliannepowell
Happy One Year to my love, Your Big Sister! Thank you everyone who’s tuned in, shared an episode with a friend, reposted on social media and those that have reached out with encouraging, positive feedback and support. Today’s episode is a recap on my Christmas break, starting the new semester, and opening up with my mental battle regarding resolutions, setting goals for myself, and how I’m trying to facilitate meaningful change stemming from gratitude and positive reflection and not from the dissection of all things “wrong” in my life. There’s always so much to be grateful for, despite the adversity we face in our relationships/every day life, so it’s important to be reminded of that, and keep that truth in the front & center of our minds. Happy anniversary YBS. Cheers to a New Year and the continuation of growth, love, and gratitude💗
We’re coming to the end of the year and as we wrap up 2022, I’ve been taking some time to reflect on my fitness journey over the past two years. This episode I wanted to break down the biggest ways I’ve seen myself evolve mentally and physically in relation to working out starting in 2021 to this year; I also highlight what my goals are for myself looking into 2023 and the ways in which I really want to challenge my growth. Happy Monday <3Your Big Sister@yourbigsisteratx@miampowelll
Happy (rainy) Monday! As we all know, the holiday season is upon us. For some, it is the highlight of their year, for others it might be overwhelming, and for a lot of us, it's somewhere in the middle. This episode, I offer up some helpful reminders to help you prepare for some potentially stressful situations that can inherently affect our family dynamics. Regardless of where you are this year, I hope you find this episode reassuring--an encouragement to be mindful of your energy in this holiday season, now and always <3Love,Your Big Sister@yourbigsisteratx@miampowelll
Happy Monday! For this week's episode, I have my sister Emma back on the pod so we could share our family's homeschooling experience with 8 kids growing up. There were struggles as well as highlights so we discuss which elements from that period of our lives helped us adjust to when we enrolled in public school and how it also influenced our dynamic with our parents as well as each other. There has been many times when I've wanted to bring more context to past episodes from that period of our lives so I figured it was time to give my listeners some insight to our family while we were homeschooled. I hope you all enjoy!Love,Your Big Sister
Happy Monday everyone! This week on Your Big Sister, I was inspired by a post that highlighted how the quality of our lives are directly linked to the quality our habits, and it fueled me to want to break down the fundamentals that I think are essential to contributing toward a healthy lifestyle, mentally, emotionally & physically. Here’s your gentle reminder that it’s never too late to reflect on what is or isn’t serving you any longer, and make adjustments where you need to take care of you❤️ Love, Your Big Sister
This week on Your Big Sister, I am delighted to introduce Dr. Dina Inman-Ramgolam, a professor in the Moody College of Communications at UT Austin! Dr. IR earned her PhD and MA degree in Organizational Communication and a BA in Speech Communication. She has a passion for teaching about how we rely on our devices and how we use them to interact with others online. In this episode we discuss various topics related to an online presence and how it effects our every day life. Dr. IR elaborates on the dangerous implications that multitasking can result in, why we suffer from FOMO, setting boundaries with availability, and she also offers some helpful tips for minimizing screen time and how we can manage our social media.Happy Monday! Love,Your Big Sister@yourbigsisteratx@miampowelll
This week, my good friend Esther--from Girls On Fire--stepped into her big sister role for me & read my tarot cards! She reminds me that it’s okay to not feel at 100% all the time, but encourages me to not forget that you are your own main character and anything you imagine having is yours to grab! Happy Monday :)Love, Your Big Sister@yourbigsisteratx@miampowelll@girlsonfireatx@estherfitzz
I wanted to record an episode after the first week of school to debrief about how I'm adjusting and what my new routine looks like! Being back on a campus has been really exciting for me and I wanted to share my big takeaways :)Additionally, with the school year back on, I have already seen a difference in energy levels I have in regards to working out so I wanted to address the topic of how we can be more versatile when it comes to shifting schedules and not be so hard on ourselves when commitments change. You are constantly going through different seasons in life - it's important that we can adjust mentally & physically! For anyone listening to this episode that went back to school this fall, congrats! Sending you good vibes this semester <3Love,Your Big Sister@yourbigsisteratx@miampowelll
This week on Your Big Sister, I’m diving into a topic that I believe is imperative that every individual should think about and explore more in their own life: boundaries. sometimes we have people in our lives that really test our relationship with our own mental health and setting necessary boundaries in order to protect your well-being is necessary. I break down one of the biggest misconceptions that we think characterize boundaries and reinstate what it truly means to set healthy boundaries in your life, whether it is with codependent family members, friends, coworkers or romantic partners. I hope you all enjoy this episode. Love, Your Big Sister
This episode is for all of my girlies listening that, when they know change is around the corner, they resist harder than anything, choose their comfort zone every time or battle anxiety in response to any major shift coming. Hopefully you all find this episode an encouraging reminder that you have the resilience to get you through each and every situation that is thrown your way...Love,Your Big Sister@yourbigsisteratx@miampowelll
This week I'm so excited to be joined by my two younger sisters, EMMA AND AMELIA for a fun trivia game that tests which one of us knows more about each sibling! If you know me at all, you know that they are two of the biggest reasons why I love being an older sister and I'm thrilled to be able to share them with you all on the podcast this week - we had such a blast recording this episode, so I hope you all laugh as much as we did! Happy Monday.Love,Your Big Sister@yourbigsisteratx@miampowelll
This week, I wanted to (finally!) take an opportunity to highlight some really important concepts that I have been enlightened to throughout having started my fitness/weightlifting journey a year and a half ago! Whether you're just getting started with yours or perhaps you've been looking for a boost of encouragement to kickstart a more active lifestyle, this episode features the fundamentals to put you in the right mindset.Love, Your Big Sister@yourbigsisteratx@miampowelll
This week on Your Big Sister, I am really excited to to introduce my good friend Taylor! As Taylor is the youngest of 4 girls with me closer to the top of 8, I found us in a unique position to discuss our dynamics with our siblings through the lens of birth order. As Taylor and I both share a passion for astrology, we also spent some time dissecting both of our charts (since they both align in many ways) and how that plays a large role in who we are. Enjoy this week's episode that is all girl chat and share it with a bestie <3Love, Your Big SisterPSA: I highly recommend reading The Birth Order Book by Kevin Leman as it's been such a helpful tool in understanding more about yourself simply based off where you are in the lineup of siblings or what it can mean for you if you are an only child.@yourbigsisteratx@miampowelll@taylor.bhuiyan
This week, I wanted to give you all an update about my situation with school, where I'm looking to go in the fall and talk a little bit about my struggle with self worth as a student and the tendency I have to compare my successes with others'. As a type A individual who has always strived to have as much planned out as possible, this has proved itself more tricky to maintain as I've gotten older. I wanted to take this opportunity to reassure others that share similar anxieties with the reminder that our self worth should not be entirely tied up in the school you attend, job you acquire, or the checkboxes you have fulfilled overtime. As I share my perception of what healthy vs. toxic comparison looks like and how we can combat this natural compulsion that all humans have, I hope everyone finds as much encouragement in listening to this episode as I found in recording it! Love,Your Big Sister@yourbigsisteratx@miampowelll
New week, new episode, and the first sibling appearance on Your Big Sister! For those of you that know Emma, you know her as the spunky, sassy, independent main character of the Powell clan that will have you laughing nonstop. For those of you who have not yet had the honor...here's your chance! With high school graduation right around the corner, Emma and I talk about how she feels getting ready for the next big chapter with college, her dynamic with family members (no, Amelia, we're not talking shit!), friendships, and HER VERY FIRST BOYFRIEND. I hope you all have just as much fun listening as we did recording this episode! Love, Your Big Sister@yourbigsisteratx@miampowelll@emmapowellll
THIS EPISODE IS FOR CLASS CREDIT!Welcome back everyone! This week was a little different because this particular episode was ultimately recorded as the final project for my communications class. We were directed to choose a topic of interest to us that was covered over the course of the semester, then reflect on it through the form of a research paper or a podcast episode...that worked out for me! There is toxic conflict, and there is conflict that is essential for us to experience in order to grow. In this episode, I break down the 4 cornerstone characteristics that make up conflict, differentiate the good from the bad, and--with some help from a few sources--highlight how we can use our communication to help us navigate conflict in a healthy way. Hope you all enjoy!Love, Your Big Sister@yourbigsisteratx@miampowelll
This week, I finally got to dive into a topic that has been on my mind since way before Your Big Sister started! Non-negotiables. I am a firm believer that the standards you set for yourself are going to reflect your life entirely, but most importantly, the people that are in it. Here are 6 non-negotiables that I believe are essential to the success and health of any relationship, regardless if it's a sibling, parent, best friend, spouse, or partner. Hope you all enjoy!Love, Your Big Sister @yourbigsisteratx@miampowelll
