If you've been going round and round in your head about how to fix your low libido, this episode is for you.In this episode, I explore why we tend to overcomplicate libido and desire, and offer a completely different view on understanding your relationship with intimacy and pleasure.Episode summary:Redefining libido beyond just feeling horny- Moving away from the myth that libido must mean an irrepressible urge for sexSociosexual scripts and cultural conditioning - How society's narrow definition of what counts "normal" sex means you're already blocking yourselfWhen you're having "duty sex"Understanding your upbringing and conditioning around sexThe difference between spontaneous vs responsive desire - Understanding that waiting for spontaneous horniness is an unreliable marker for great intimacyThinking about your libido as the "canary in the coal mine" - Viewing low libido as your body signaling something needs support rather than something brokenWhat can block your desire and whyWhat feeds desireThe importance of context - The mental load, gender roles, patriarchy, household dynamics, and creating the right environment for bonkingA client storyWhen you're highly sensitive and sensoryEducation and models of desire - Overview of research from the Kinsey Institute on different types of desire patternsQuotes:"Waiting for your libido to arrive magically in order to have great sex is a really unreliable marker - it's like wanting to make a million quid but waiting to win the lottery instead of creating a business plan.""We still live in a world where female sexuality and women's bodies are something that we give. Sex is something we give, not something we enjoy and experience.""How much has duty sex played into your intimate life, where sex was something you gave alongside all the many other things you've given? Your body and vagina is just another thing that you give - or as one of my mentors said, you're caretaking your husband with your vagina."Come to my new masterclass for women and vulva owners: Reignite Your Desire on September 23rd. In this powerful follow-up to Part 1, I’m joined again by Dr. Angela Wright—trauma-informed medical doctor and clinical sexologist—for a raw, compassionate, and deeply necessary conversation on trauma-informed medical care, especially when it comes to pelvic exams and gynecological procedures. We explore how traditional medicine often fails to take trauma, consent, and nervous system regulation into account, and how this seriously harms patients, especially women and neurodivergent folks. We also talk about our own experiences in medical settings, and why we're creating a workshop to help patients advocate for themselves, especially in vulnerable exams. What we cover in this episode:▶️ Why most medical care (especially gynecological care) is not trauma-informed—and why that’s a huge problem▶️What a trauma-informed pelvic exam actually looks like in practice (and why it doesn't need to be complicated or require hours of extra training for practitioners to do it.)▶️How medical power dynamics and the “fawn response” show up for patients▶️Our personal experiences navigating uncomfortable or disempowering pelvic procedures – including my experiencing having a HyCoSy scan and what they bloody well should have done better (no pain relief offered, and strapping my legs into the stirrups did not make me feel safer, it was the opposite)▶️Why clinicians need to stop assuming patients are “non-compliant” and start asking WHY▶️Advocating for yourself before, during, and after medical exams—even if you’re nervous or freeze up▶️The importance of bodily autonomy and informed choice in healthcare▶️Why trauma-informed care is not just “nice to have”—it’s essential▶️Why we’re launching a patient-focused workshop on how to advocate for yourself in medical settings (waitlist link below!)💡 If you’ve ever felt dismissed, retraumatized, or powerless in a medical setting—this one’s for you.SIGN UP HERE FOR THE WORKSHOP:https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/how-to-advocate-for-yourself-in-intimate-medical-exams-tickets-1450208014209?aff=oddtdtcreatorLearn more about Dr. Angela and book a consult with her here: https://spicedpearhealth.co.uk/---Follow this podcast on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0MdbEOJW9nXRqLsAMSTRAn?si=13d9a8abecfe4ac0Follow this podcast on Apple podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-naked-unashamed-life/id1682478750Want to connect more? For the shameless sexual confidence, pleasure and deep satisfaction you’ve been craving, head here: https://lucyrowett.com/Free practice to move from numbness to feeling again in sex: https://bit.ly/feelagainpracticeFree PDF on how to confidently ask for what you want in bed: https://bit.ly/askforwhatyoureallywantLearn more about working together 1:1 here: https://lucyrowett.com/liberated-coaching-program/Unlock your sexual happiness with Beducated. In this deeply honest and validating conversation, I'm joined by my friend and colleague Dr. Angela Wright, a trauma-informed medical doctor and clinical sexologist—for a no-holds-barred exploration of hormonal sensitivity, PMDD, menopause, ADHD, neurodivergence, chronic illness, the invisible ways trauma shows up in our medical stories, and making medical care trauma informed. We’re both neurodivergent, we both have “wonky bodies,” and both have been through the wringer of navigating a medical system that often gaslights or overlooks people like us. In Part 1, we share some of our own medical histories, lived experiences, and the patterns we’ve seen again and again in neurodivergent, hormonally sensitive people– especially those who’ve been told, implicitly or explicitly, that their body is the problem. In this episode we cover:▶️ What “hormonal sensitivity” actually means, and how it shows up in conditions like PMDD, menopause, and perinatal mental health▶️The deep overlap between neurodivergence (especially ADHD and autism), chronic illness, and hormone-related symptoms▶️Why so many women and AFAB people are misdiagnosed, dismissed, or given fragmented care▶️Our personal experiences of navigating the medical system as neurodivergent, “wonky bodied”, hormonally sensitive individuals▶️How trauma and a dysregulated nervous system shape medical experiences—and what doctors often miss▶️When you’re hyper-aware of your body’s internal state and the impact that has▶️Why vaginal estrogen is still misunderstood (even by many doctors), the harm that causes, and why we need to use it on the clitoris too▶️If you can use vaginal estrogen after you’ve had breast cancer, or not▶️How HRT needs to be adapted for hormone-sensitive patients—and why a one-size-fits-all approach fails▶️Why the medical system desperately needs a trauma-informed, collaborative model of care▶️The importance of redefining what “health” means—beyond just physical or mental symptoms💡 Expect truth-telling, laughter, science, swearing, and moments that might make you feel seen in ways you didn’t know you needed.👉 At the end of the episode, you’ll hear about our upcoming workshop on advocating for yourself in medical settings—designed especially for people who are used to being dismissed or misunderstood.SIGN UP HERE: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/how-to-advocate-for-yourself-in-intimate-medical-exams-tickets-1450208014209?aff=oddtdtcreatorLearn more about Dr. Angela and book a consult with her here: https://spicedpearhealth.co.uk/---Follow this podcast on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0MdbEOJW9nXRqLsAMSTRAn?si=13d9a8abecfe4ac0Follow this podcast on Apple podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-naked-unashamed-life/id1682478750---Want to connect more? For the shameless sexual confidence, pleasure and deep satisfaction you’ve been craving, head here: https://lucyrowett.com/Free practice to move from numbness to feeling again in sex: https://bit.ly/feelagainpracticeFree PDF on how to confidently ask for what you want in bed: https://bit.ly/askforwhatyoureallywantLearn more about working together 1:1 here: https://lucyrowett.com/liberated-coaching-program/Unlock your sexual happiness with Beducated. Starting 2025 with a hard hitting, uncomfortable truth. Ladies, this one's for you: Have you ever felt uncomfortable, triggered or even betrayed when your partner does some “self loving”? If so, you’re not alone—but it’s time to challenge those feelings and unravel the stories we’ve all been told about men, relationships, and sexuality.  What if you could move from feeling triggered to openly supporting your man to masturbate? And the same for you? In this solo episode that I’ve dug up from 2022, I dive deep into why your man’s self-loving time isn’t actually about you, why it’s NOT cheating, it’s NOT stealing from your relationship, and why supporting his sexual autonomy can actually liberate your relationship.  This episode is an invitation for you to challenge your perspective about masturbating, understand all of our conditioning, understand desire, and I really hope, spark meaningful change in your relationship. I cover: Understanding why your man masturbating can feel so uncomfortable, including societal messages and how we think about it in general. Why your partner’s desires and body don’t belong to you, nor yours to them—and how that truth can set you free. How societal shame and secrecy around masturbation affect both men and women. Viewing masturbation as a self-nourishing act that can enhance intimacy and connection. With yourself and each other. Reflecting on your own sexual story and the messages you've internalized about masturbation. Exploring how you feel about porn Tune in, reflect, and share your thoughts—I’d love to hear your takeaways! --- Want to connect more? JOIN MY MAILING LIST! After years of therapy, coaching, somatic work, personal development, spiritual work and more, I felt frustrated that I still felt like a hot mess on the inside and that I couldn’t be perfectly “regulated” and symptom-free. It wasn't until I learned (and have to keep remembering) to embrace that I am highly sensitive with big needs and big wants by default that I stopped feeling so broken. Think of this as an audio love letter to all the highly sensitive "too much" folk who tried to heal it away and it never worked. (Especially if you too are autistic/highly sensitive/neurodivergent.) In this episode I cover: Embracing your bigness When you’re highly sensitive or neurodivergent Putting a lid on your emotions How I manage my own sensitivity Trying so hard to fix ourselves when we’re actually autistic or neurodivergent Being sensitive, having big needs and big emotions as default When we try to squash our own bigness What triggers us in others reflects something about ourselves Where are you still inadvertently squashing yourself? Being married to an introvert when I am an extrovert The 3 big taboos: Food, money, and sex Having the ick about your needs and wants in general Going on a want walk When having wants is a sin  When you should only want what “God” wants Playing mind games instead of asking for what you want directly Overriding what your body wants in school Accepting being highly sensitive and having high needs as your default rather than needing to be healed Playing to your actual size Quotes: “What if you can accept that you are a big emotional person, incredibly needy, with high sensory needs and accept that as your default rather than something that needs to be healed away?” “Where am I still denying that I have these needs and I’m not a big emotional person and have high sensitivity? Where am I still pretending something doesn’t matter to me when it does?” “If you’ve got low desire, low libido, have no idea what you like in sex or struggle to ask for what you want in bed, I guarantee you have get the ick about having wants and needs in general.” Less stuff. More oooooohh. This Black Friday, don't buy more. You're in for a giggling treat as I saw down with my friend, collaborator, and co-conspirator Lisa Rombach in her cozy studio in Vienna. We talked everything intimacy, sensuality, pleasure, and motherhood. In this episode we covered: When therapy and healing work leaves out sexuality When most women don't know what their boundaries are What bliss and pleasure can look like outside of sex Sensuality vs sexuality We always have sex something to feel something emotionally Being a recovering people pleaser The importance of attunement in relationships Why it's so important to slow down so you can Why learning how to be with other people is a skill Listening to our bodies while we're with each other Why we need erotic friendly spaces The path to motherhood doesn't always involve having a baby The physical experience of motherhood A path to parenthood that is respectful both to ourselves and our kids All about the course MotherCircle The seasons of womanhood and motherhood Reclaiming the word "virgin" When mothers are desexualized Reclaiming motherhood from being politicized How to join Mother Circle and Embodied Bliss Circles Quotes: "As women and those socialized as women, we're never really taught to know what our boundaries are or even allowed to have them in the first place. We have to override them and smile when you really want to tell them to go f*ck themselves." "Learning to feel what your "yes" is can be terrifying and exhilerating all at the same time." "Maiden, mother, virgin, and the crone. After giving ourselves to society and the continuation of the species, this is when we become women whole unto ourselves." Sometimes sexual fantasies get a bad wrap. In tantra, spirituality, therapy, and the embodiment world. This is why I was so excited for this interview with Artemisia de Vine to thoroughly debunk myths about fantasies, and why they are actually the key to your wholeness. Because what if your sexual fantasies were the bridge to your sexual liberation and spiritual growth too? Listen to this episode if you've ever felt ashamed of your fantasies or worried it was because you hadn't "healed" enough. In this episode we covered: Ranting about tantra and conscious sexuality folk on fantasies When therapists accidentally pathologize sexual fantasies Myths about our fantasies and what they mean What’s wrong with us and needs fixing + what are the inherent paradoxes of sex Sexual fantasies are genius stories to help the ego let go Overcoming the paradoxes of sexuality Our shadows to wholeness and integration What we think of the term “conscious” The value of embodiment practices in reclaiming sexuality Why your mind is not the enemy Why being in sexual fantasy does not go against “spiritual” sexuality When you cut off the mind you cut off a part of your sexual self Good girl-itis The role of the ego “If I just did enough work, I wouldn’t need that fantasy” Owning what you want in the first place Playing with the paradox Sexual fantasies as a doorway into us If you feel like you have to be embodied You should only have “high vibe" fantasies! What we fantasise about versus what our real life values and wants are Sexual fantasies are not meant to be instructions.  Celeb swoon technique The 3 paradoxes of sexuality and why they are all correct:  Your ego and your desire What you need and what your lover needs What is best for the individual and what is best for the collective “Sexual fantasies are not meant to be instruction manuals of behaviour in the outside world. They are absolutely freaking genius manuals to show you how to change your internal state through consensual play and take exactly where you need to go, because there's no one who knows your own mind better than you do. Understanding your own sexual fantasies and what they really mean and how you can trigger those paradoxes inside of yourself in your real life sex, that's going to take you where you want to go.” Learn about your own unique erotic wiring for free: MyFantasyIs.comWork with Artemisia de Vine: artemisiadevine.comSubscribe to juicey newsletter full of insights into the erotic psyche: artemisiadevine.com Unlock your sexual happiness with Beducated. I'm going to make a bold statement: what if when it came to how ADHD affects your sex life, there was NOTHING inherently wrong with you? These are my thoughts after the epic interview with Dr. Kate Lister on ADHD and the history of sex. In this episode I cover: * Feeling disappointed that so much traditional medical and therapeutic advice about ADHD and sex is pathologizing * Why we need to stop pathologizing our sexuality, our bodies, our minds, everything * Why it's all about nuance * What if you keep getting distracted in bed? * Being highly sensory and highly sensitive and what it means * What if you just have a different erotic blueprint? * Discharging the fight/flight response * Why lifestyle changes and managing ADHD is super important too * Being neuroqueer and what that means * Putting "healthy" sex into a tiny box * When you are easily enraptured and slip into ecstatic states Read my Substack article on what if you're highly sensitive too: https://shamelesswoman.substack.com/p/adhd-and-sex-what-if-youre-actually Listen to episode #24 with Dr. Kate Lister: https://open.spotify.com/episode/3FHRqHABYqSJashrMhpXRg?si=9357ddac0caf4d54 --- Follow this podcast on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0MdbEOJW9nXRqLsAMSTRAn?si=13d9a8abecfe4ac0 Follow this podcast on Apple podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-naked-unashamed-life/id1682478750 Want to connect more? It was such a delight to chat with someone I have fangirled over for years, the one and only sex historian Dr. Kate Lister! In this episode we covered everything from our ADHD diagnoses and how we live with it, working in (and recovering from) academia, spotting predators in tantra, why studying sex is tricky, gay subcultures, and why we should all keep a sex diary and time capsule for future historians to study. Warning, we laugh a lot and say many inappropriate things. Treat yourself to this chat with me and the woman who calls herself “The Forrest Gump of Academia”. CW: Contains mentions of SA a few times. In this episode we cover: Her ADHD diagnosis story and refusing to accept it Being in spaces that affirm ADHD Leaving ADHD communities and exacerbating symptoms The role of ADHD doing her work-why researching sex helps with hyperfocus Recovering from academia ADHD and sex, how it affects her Using sex as a dopamine hit Myths about ADHD and sex Being highly sensory My experience of tantric exercises Spotting tantra predators and red flags How we define sex? King James and what being gay meant historically The Bible and clobber verses Maybe not giving a BJ's to King James  When we eroticize the past Sexual fantasies Keeping a sex diary for history and making a sex time capsule Contact Kate here: Follow her podcast, Betwixt The Sheets, from History Hit On Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1krsAvYm52tQPrHkP4XBNV?si=5b12d8fadb6d484e On Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/betwixt-the-sheets-the-history-of-sex-scandal-society/id1612090432 Website: www.drkatelister.com Instagram: @drkatelister TikTok: @drkatelister  Buy her books: A Curious History of Sex: https://amzn.to/4c9mJmf Whores, Harlots, and Hackabouts: A History of Sex For Sale: https://amzn.to/3Rxrg9G --- Follow this podcast on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0MdbEOJW9nXRqLsAMSTRAn?si=13d9a8abecfe4ac0 Follow this podcast on Apple podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-naked-unashamed-life/id1682478750 Want to connect more? How do you feel about porn? Is it something you enjoy, feel uncomfortable about, or have mixed feelings? I get it, because porn is a super activating topic, especially when we know the track record of the big porn companies and free tube sites aren't... brilliant. And yet, I'm always banging the drum that there is a whole world of alternative porn and erotica out there-- made by independent producers, with genuine care and concern for their performers, and catering to a different audience. In this episode I'm so excited to chat with founder of female-focused, ethical porn company, FrolicMe, Anna Richards. We cover: Why she got into founding FrolicMe Why FrolicMe is deliberately female-focused and focused on female pleasure Her thoughts on the free tube sites and when they become dehumanizing When shame is wrapped up in what you’re seeing What she would say to women who feel concerned about porn and young people The 50 Shades of Grey boom that got women talking about erotica Why porn is brilliant for low libido in women When couples get into porn together and how it can enhance their sex life When you don’t like porn and what makes ethical porn different Why not all women like the same thing When consent gets to be sexy Why not all women are into vanilla When women think they’re sexually broken Why most porn stars actually have normal lives Why we all want the same things for young people How to protect your kids so they aren't exposed to material before they are ready Her thoughts on the upcoming Online Safety Bill in the UK Infusing care, consent, and respect into porn, and into our intimate lives too My favourite quote from her: “Pornography is a chemical-free libido booster” Find FrolicMe here: https://www.frolicme.com/ Follow Anna on Instagram @frolicme_anna and @frolicme_official To celebrate Masturbation May, you can get 50% off your Beducated subscription! How do you market your work when you're a sexuality professional and constantly dealing with internet censorship? What if the traditional marketing and business advice just doesn't apply to you because of the nature of what you do? No we bloody well can't run paid ads easily, it's not just our mindset when we are always facing the very real possibility of our Instagram accounts getting banned with no warning, and our content usually performs less well than non-spicy content because of shadowbanning. Or what if the very word "content" makes your bum clench in a non-consensual way and you don't want to be spammy? Never fear, I've teamed up with my fabulous friend, colleague, and co-conspirator, Julian Marcus to explain how we do it. He's a sexological bodyworker, bodyworker, and intimacy coach and also a brilliant videographer and website expert. We're combining both of our different marketing expertise-- me with social media and writing, him with embodiment and videography-- to give our unique perspective on making marketing sexy again. It's not about knowing all the keywords and performing the latest dance craze on TikTok, it's more playing to your own strengths and finding a creative outlet that works with your energy. We're running the next content salon for spicy and censored professionals to help you find your own unique voice online to speak to the people you want to while it feeling like it's genuinely coming from you. How do you heal from purity culture? How do you get to a place where the shame no longer affects you? How can you recover your sexuality and know deep in your bones that it is something good? Yes the title is clickbaity and this episode is full of caveats about what healing is and isn't. In this long-form episode I give my take on healing (and why there are no rules to it and I absolutely do not have a 5-step formula), 8 or 9 practical tips, some brilliant resources, and changing your mindset around what, "fully healed" actually means. Points I cover: Why healing has no rules and it looks different to everyone Why healing is messy and non-linear and it’s supposed to be that way Stop putting healing on a pedestal outside of yourself What if healing was thriving? My best tips and things to try Why you sometimes need to flip to the other end of the pendulum, but not always Why you always get to be in choice Trusting yourself to make your own decisions and your own mistakes What if spirit just means your connection to yourself? If something feels, “off”, in a spiritual setting, trust that! Yes I said it, I believe women and vulva havers in relationships should self-pleasure MORE! (And those not in relationships too) Why? Because self-pleasuring/masturbating/w*nking is one of the most powerful acts of self love, self care, and self honouring you can do. It's a gift you give to yourself that is separate from the intimacy you have with your lover, and in this episode I break it down. If you want to learn how to do just that, then register for my next live workshop, The Self Loving Salon. In this episode I cover: The shaming messages about masturbation that I learned in Purity Culture Why we all received similar messaging even if you grew up in a non-religious household Common myths about masturbation-- like you only do it when you can't get the, "real thing" Even if you don't believe the sex shaming messages, your body still remembers "This feels like my body"Waiting for Prince Charming Why nobody can "give" you an orgasm Outsourcing your power and pleasure to somebody else Why I believe masturbating is one of the most powerful forms of self care and self love you can do The Self Loving Salon is a live self pleasuring workshop for women and vulva havers on February 27th. It's a Valentine's/Galentine's-ish workshop just for you. Get your ticket to The Self Loving Salon here. ---- Follow this podcast on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0MdbEOJW9nXRqLsAMSTRAn?si=13d9a8abecfe4ac0 Follow this podcast on Apple podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-naked-unashamed-life/id1682478750 Want to connect more? Do you wish you could just confidently ask for what you want in bed, but instead you freeze up? I've got you. In this episode I cover the 5 main obstacles that women and vulva havers face in confident sexual communication that have nothing to do with being silly, a prude, or generally anything, "wrong", with you. And then I cover what you can do about them to make it easier. Remember that sexual communication is like literally any other skill in sex and relationships-- a SKILL you need to learn and get better at, NOT because something is wrong with you. The 5 mistakes are: Not knowing what you want in the first place (or not feeling worthy of wanting.) Worrying about ruining the mood Perfectionism Fear of being rejected Fear of getting it wrong Listen to this episode and start practising!
