Close Your Eyes and Be Awake...
Yoga Nidra is a deeply restorative practice where your body is in a state of deep sleep, while your mind remains awake. This non-sleep deep rest (NSDR) state creates the conditions for nervous system repair and natural healing for the body and mind opening the doors to increased calmness, clarity, creativity, hormonal and metabolic benefits, and emotional resolution. All you have to do is listen to the guided audio and try to stay awake.
Keep in mind that this podcast is created with deference to both Indian Yogic teachings and Jewish wisdom to the best of my knowledge.

NA'ALEH YOGA: Yoga Nidra Journeys for Deep Rest
Close Your Eyes and Stay Awake...
In this episode, I'm honored to speak with David Crowe, a seasoned acupuncturist and herbalist, about how deep rest practices like yoga nidra, body-based meditation, and botanical medicine work together to retrain the nervous system and support lasting healing.
We deep dive into the practice of yoga nidra and discuss practical integration—simple herb-and-mindfulness routines for home—cautions around entheogens and trauma, and resources for continuing practice and study.
David's bio:
David Crow, L.Ac., graduated from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1984; he is a California state licensed acupuncturist and nationally certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. He has been a clinician, consultant, researcher and educator for over 40 years, and is an expert in Chinese, Tibetan, Ayurvedic and Western herbal medicine.
David was one of the first Westerners to train and be licensed in Chinese medicine, and one of the few to study Ayurvedic and Tibetan medicine in traditional internships in Nepal and India; he was also one of the first medical pioneers to use essential oils and aromatherapy in clinical practice, and to integrate these diverse modalities into comprehensive treatments.
David has operated several clinics, including a practice in Kathmandu serving the Tibetan and Nepalese communities as well as international travelers, and practices in California in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Monterey, and in Ashland, Oregon. David currently serves people from all over the world through his telemedicine practice.
David is a passionate medical researcher and educator of state-of-the-art herbal medicine, and an authority on the safe uses of herbs and essential oils. He avoids the popular trends of market-driven internet medicine and relies instead on documented research and traditional ethnobotanical wisdom and methods.
David works in numerous herbal cultivation projects, including as the co-founder of The Learning Garden at Venice High School in Los Angeles, one of the first and oldest school gardens in the country.
As an esteemed leader in the herbal and aromatherapy industry for more than 30 years, David has established unique access to the highest quality sources of products for his patients.

NA'ALEH YOGA: Nidra Journeys for Deep Rest+
Close Your Eyes and Stay Awake...
This soothing meditation is designed to awaken compassion within yourself and for the world around you during the Elul and Tishrei in the Jewish calendar. This healing rest journey is specifically created for the days leading up to the high holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. This session invites you to lie down in a comfortable space and connect deeply with your breath, encouraging relaxation and introspection.
Drawing inspiration from Rabbi Avraham Joshua Heschel's teachings, this practice encourages you to release judgment and embrace a state of compassionate witnessing.
Throughout the practice, you'll journey through the five gateways of consciousness, culminating in a transcendent experience of unity in the field of compassion. This episode offers a chance to plant an intention-- a special kavanah-- and let it resonate deeply within you.
Listen in and allow yourself to be enveloped in the warmth of compassion.

NA'ALEH YOGA: Nidra Journeys for Deep Rest+
Close Your Eyes and Stay Awake...
This episode is part of the Jewish Calendar Series and is created for the month of Av. This month focuses on rectifying the sense of hearing and invites you to descend into the healing darkness where you can listen deeply to connect with the resonance of your soul.
Through practicing Yoga Nidra, you take a pause from all the sensory input channels except for sound so you can focus on the space within. This practice of Yoga Nidra guides you in the exploration of sound as you journey through the layers of consciousness from the body, breath, and mind to your deeper understanding and soul consciousness. Instead of a traditional verbal visualization, this practice contains a non-verbal sound visualization sequence to support deepest listening beyond that which words can express, while you are held in a state of relaxation.
Please note that this practice may bring out unexpected emotions or memories. This is completely normal, and you are encouraged to welcome all that shows up with curiosity and compassionate witnessing. If this is not the right time for you to elicit emotions, then a milder practice may be better suited for the time being.
Prepare for a transformative experience as you receive the gift of rest in the stillness of your soul. Allow your body and mind to relax deeply as you sail through sounds and silence and hear your soul's whispers.
