Know K1 What part of the passage or the sermon stood out to you most today, and why? Grow G1 The hymn “Just as I am” describes “fightings within and fears without.” When have you experienced that kind of inner and outer pressure? How did it impact your view of God at the time? G2 The sermon explored the difference between the God we want and the God who is. What are some ways we try to remake God into our own image? G3 Paul’s thorn was used by God to keep him from pride. How do you respond to the idea that God sometimes allows hardship for our sanctification? G4 “My grace is sufficient for you.” What does God’s sufficient grace look like in real, everyday terms—not as a slogan, but as lived experience? G5 Where in your life right now do you most feel your weakness—and how might Christ’s power be made perfect there? G6 The sermon reminded us that Jesus may not rescue us from every hardship, but He always remains with us in it. What difference does His presence make in seasons of pain, uncertainty, or discouragement? Show S1 Looking at your week ahead, where is one place you need to trust Jesus as your Rescuer—either by surrendering something, obeying something, or asking for His strength in your weakness?

Jesus is King. The Passage: 1 Peter 2.11-17 Know K1 What stood out to you from Sunday’s passage or message? Was there a phrase, image, or idea that struck you most? Grow G1 Foreigners & Exiles: Peter calls Christians “foreigners and exiles.” What does that image evoke for you? Where in your life do you feel that sense of being out of place because you follow Jesus? G2 The Real Battleground: Peter insists the primary “culture war” is within us (sinful desires waging war against the soul). What does fighting that inner battle honestly look like for you right now? G3 Living Good Lives: Peter says to “live such good lives among the pagans” that even if they accuse us, they still see ourgood deeds. What is one way Christians can be misunderstood today, and how can good deeds speak louder than those misunderstandings? G4 Breaking Out of Echo Chambers: Where are you tempted to retreat into a Christian bubble or an ideological echo chamber? What would it look like to be more curious, listening, and present with those who see the world differently? G5 Submitting to Authority: Peter’s call to submit to authorities was written during Nero’s reign. How do you wrestle with submission to imperfect leaders today? What helps you foster a Christlike posture? G6 — Living Free / Living as Slaves: Peter says we are free people—but also God’s slaves. How does that paradox reshape the way we think about our rights, our conduct, and our witness? Show S1 — Where might Jesus be inviting you this week to step into the Exile Lifestyle in a practical way— fighting the internal battle, doing good among neighbours, or submitting with humility? What is one step of obedience or repentance you sense God prompting in you?

What did you notice about the people around Jesus on the cross—the rulers, soldiers, bystanders, and criminals? GROW G1 Jesus says, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Where in the passage do you see people acting without understanding? Why do you think Jesus highlights their lack of awareness? G2 Dan highlights four groups who needed forgiveness. Which group do you personally relate to at different times in your life—the indifferent bystander, the one who sneers, the one who mocks, or the one who lashes out from a place of pain? G3 Luke shows that in this moment multiple Old Testament prophecies were being fulfilled. How does seeing Jesus’ death as part of God’s long-planned rescue mission strengthen your trust in God’s sovereignty or compassion? G4 A major theme was the contrast between what Jesus did (he forgave) and what he did not do (he did not save himself). Why is it significant that our forgiveness depended on Jesus refusing to save himself? G5 The second criminal recognized Jesus, admitted his own guilt, and simply said, “Remember me.” Why do you think this humble, two-word prayer was enough for Jesus to respond with such grace? G6 In your own life, where do you sense Jesus gently saying, “I am better”—better than the idols, distractions, or alternative “saviours” that compete for your heart? What does that invitation mean for you right now? SHOW S1 Where do you need to turn toward Jesus today—in repentance, in trust, or in surrender? What might it look like for you to say, in your own way, “Jesus, remember me,” and to receive his forgiveness and presence this week?

Would our faith, worship, and ministry carry on? Why or why not? Grow G1 In verses 5–6, the disciples are impressed by the beauty of the temple. Why do you think people can so easily be drawn to the visible, tangible parts of faith (buildings, music, programs) rather than to God Himself? G2 Jesus tells them that even the most impressive religious structures can come down. How does this challenge the ways we attach our sense of stability, identity, or faithfulness to physical things? G3 What are some modern “temples”—things that are good gifts but can subtly move from aids to worship into objects of worship? G4 In verses 7–11 Jesus speaks of upheaval, uncertainty, and things falling apart. How does trusting Jesus help us stay steady when the externals of life (or church life) feel shaky? G5 Jesus promises His presence and His words when trials come (vv.14–15). How have you seen God strengthen you or give you words when you felt unprepared or overwhelmed? G6 Verses 16–19 speak of endurance. What does faithful endurance look like today—not in dramatic persecution only, but in everyday discipleship? Show S1 Reflect honestly: What “temple” or “aid to worship” in your own life is at risk of becoming an idol—something you might cling to more tightly than Jesus Himself? What is one step you can take this week to re-centre your heart on Him?

What did you learn about who the Sadducees were and what they believed? Grow G1 — The Sadducees tried to trap Jesus with a question about marriage in the resurrection. Why do you think people sometimes try to make faith seem unreasonable or absurd? G2 — Jesus says that in the “age to come” there will be no marriage or being given in marriage. What does this teach us about how different life in the resurrection will be from life now? G3 — How does understanding that marriage on earth is a symbol pointing toward the union of Christ and the Church change the way we see marriage today? G4 — Jesus reminds us that in the resurrection we will be like the angels — not angels, but unable to die and fully alive to God. How does that reshape your picture of heaven? G5 — Think about Jesus quoting Moses at the burning bush — “I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” What does this reveal about God’s view of life, death, and resurrection? G6 — Dan said, “What you believe about heaven will change how you live life on earth.” How might a strong theology of heaven affect your perseverance, priorities, and perspective today? Show S1 — The sermon mentioned that people enduring hardship — from enslaved Africans to those World Hope serves — often draw strength from their hope of heaven. How can you bring that same hope into your community this week? What’s one way your group could practice being a “family of God” here and now?

What does the story of Zacchaeus reveal about Jesus’ heart toward those society despises or overlooks? K2. Zacchaeus climbed the tree out of curiosity — what does that “tree” represent in our own spiritual journeys? Are there areas where we’re watching Jesus from a distance rather than welcoming Him in? Grow G1. The sermon described Zacchaeus as “the ruiner of dreams” before meeting Jesus. Why is it important to understand the depth of his sin before appreciating the depth of his transformation? G2. How does Jesus’ willingness to stay at Zacchaeus’ house challenge our ideas about who deserves grace or fellowship? G3. Have you ever experienced a moment when Jesus “called you down from the tree” — when curiosity turned into conviction or transformation? What changed afterward? Show S1. Zacchaeus’ response was immediate and tangible — generosity, restitution, and repentance. What might “coming down from the tree” look like for us in how we live and serve others this week? S2. Who in your community might feel too far gone, too loathed, or too unworthy — and how might you show them that Jesus loves the loathed and receives the rejected?

How does seeing Jesus as compassionate and attentive reshape the way we approach Him in prayer? K2 Jesus asks, “When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” (v.8). What kind of faith is He looking for, and how can we cultivate that kind of steady trust in Him today? Grow In Groups G1 Why do you think Jesus emphasizes persistence in prayer? Share a time when you had to keep praying even when you didn’t see results right away. What did you learn about God in that season? G2 In what ways can we encourage one another to keep praying and believing together as a group or church? How might community help us not “lose heart”? Show Up and Serve S1 How does Jesus’ concern for justice inspire us to act when we see others being treated unfairly? What does it look like to be part of God’s answer to someone else’s cry for help? S2 If Jesus is better than a reluctant judge, what might it look like for us to reflect His responsiveness and compassion in our daily interactions? How can we be more quick to listen, care, and respond to others in need?

Who is Jesus to you when you’re in the “borderlands”? The ten lepers called out “Jesus, Master, have pity on us.” When life feels uncertain or you’re “outside the village,” what does it mean for you personally to recognize Jesus as Master — as King — in those moments? K2. Faith before the finish line Jesus told the men to go show themselves to the priest, and as they went, they were healed. What does this teach us about trusting Jesus before seeing results? Can you share a time when obedience came before clarity or blessing? K3. Gratitude as worship Only one man returned to give thanks. How does gratitude help us know Jesus more deeply, not just as the one who heals, but as the one who saves? GROW IN GROUPS G1. Outside the village Luke’s story happens in the “borderlands,” a place where outcasts built community. How can we, in our growgroups, make space for those who feel outside the village—those who may not “fit in” easily within church culture? G2. A community of the grateful What does a “community of gratitude” look like in practical terms? How could regular thanksgiving and shared testimonies reshape our group’s spiritual atmosphere? G3. The 4 in 10 who’ve never heard You heard that 40% of people in the world have no access to the gospel. How does that truth challenge the way we think about comfort, community, and mission? What could it mean for our group to remember “those outside the village” when we pray or plan? SHOW UP AND SERVE S1. Going to the borderlands Jesus met the lepers on the way, in their place of exclusion. Who might be living “on the border” near us — in our town, school, or neighborhood — who needs to experience compassion and inclusion through us? What’s one tangible step we can take this Thanksgiving to go toward them?

Grow in Groups G1 Why does Jesus warn about the seriousness of causing others to stumble or sin (verses 1-2), and how might unforgiveness be a "stumbling block" like the mulberry tree’s deep roots? G2 How do verses 3-4 illustrate the balance between rebuking others and forgiving them repeatedly? Why is this process important in uprooting unforgiveness? G3 The disciples ask Jesus to increase their faith (verse 5). What kind of faith do you think is needed to uproot the mulberry bush of unforgiveness in our hearts? G4 Jesus says that faith as small as a mustard seed can command a mulberry tree to be uprooted and planted in the sea (verse 6). How does this image encourage us about the power of even small faith in overcoming deep-seated hurt or bitterness? G5 What role does forgiveness play in the process of removing unforgiveness from our lives, especially when the offenses are repeated G6 Verses 7-10 talk about the attitude of a servant faithfully doing their duty without expecting special thanks. How can this attitude help us when practicing rebuking and forgiveness, especially when it feels thankless or hard? Show Up and Serve S1 How can we practically cultivate the faith and heart posture needed to both lovingly rebuke and consistently forgive, so that we can uproot the mulberry bush of unforgiveness in our relationships?

Grow in Groups G1 The rich man ignored Lazarus at his gate, while Jesus in Revelation 3:20 stands at our door and knocks, inviting us to open to Him. How do these “doors/gates” compare, and what do they reveal about our willingness to respond versus ignore opportunities from God? G2 Why do you think Abraham says that even someone rising from the dead won’t persuade those who ignore Moses and the prophets? How does this challenge us to take God’s Word seriously today? Show Up and Serve S1 Jesus challenges us to notice those outside our "gates." What are practical ways we can show up and serve the people who may be overlooked or suffering in our neighborhoods? S2 The parable ends with a reversal of fortunes. How does this story impact the way we set priorities about compassion, generosity, and the use of our resources?

Jesus tells Philip, "Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father". What does this statement mean to you? How does it change your understanding of God? Grow G1 The sermon suggests that a human desire for the divine is the root cause of various societal issues, including addiction and sinful acts. How do you feel about this idea? 🤔 Do you agree that many people are, in effect, saying, "Show us the Father and that will be enough for us"? G2 Dan mentions that people who give up on their faith often do so because they don't believe God is real or that He cares about them. Based on your experiences, why do you think this might be a common reason for people to leave the church? G3 The sermon highlights the global market for spiritual services. What does this data suggest about the modern world's spiritual hunger? G4 The sermon explains that our faith is not just in a Jesus "who just SAID STUFF," but in a Jesus "WHO DID STUFF". What specific "works" of Jesus mentioned in the sermon stand out to you, and how do they demonstrate who God is? G5 The sermon refers to Colossians 1:15, which calls Jesus "the image of the invisible God." How does this verse, along with Jesus's words in John 14:10, help us understand the relationship between God the Father and God the Son? G6 The sermon ends by asking the listeners to partner in prayer and intentionality to trust God for a "fresh Kingdom Expression." What might a "Kingdom Expression" look like in your own community? Show S1 Dan mentioned that trust "takes time" and that the Ottawa Valley X Network has been building relationships over two years. Why is trust so important for a group of churches to work together on a shared vision?

In what ways does Jesus’s choice of dining partners challenge your assumptions about who belongs at the table of the Kingdom? K2 "If Jesus is establishing a new kingdom, he’s going to be upsetting some of the social power structures". What social or cultural structures in your own life or community might Jesus be seeking to upset? Grow in Groups K3 Jesus warns against inviting people who can repay you, hinting that it's a social transaction that is "not good for our souls". How does seeking reciprocity—whether in relationships, good deeds, or even charitable giving—hinder our spiritual growth? K4 Dan suggests that by inviting those who are not like us, we can get to know them and challenge our own conclusions about them. When have you found that intentionally spending time with someone different from you has led to personal growth or a changed perspective? Show Up and Serve S1 We end by asking, "Who do you need to get to know better?" and "Who is not LIKE you that you need to get acquainted with?". Brainstorm practical, tangible ways that you can apply the principle of radical hospitality in your own life this week. S2 When we practice radical hospitality, the church becomes a "showcase of Jesus' new kingdom". What does this "showcase" look like in a real-world context, and what might be the biggest challenge in making it a reality in your community?

What does this reveal about His identity as King and His priorities for His Kingdom? K2 How does Jesus’ compassion toward the bent-over woman show the heart of the King compared to the legalistic approach of the synagogue ruler? K3 The previous section (vv. 1–9) speaks of repentance and fruitfulness. How does Jesus’ healing here illustrate what “bearing fruit” in God’s Kingdom looks like? Grow in Groups G1 How do you think the synagogue crowd felt as they watched this encounter? Why do you think they rejoiced in Jesus’ actions? How can we as a community respond similarly when God works among us? G2 Jesus publicly defended the woman against criticism (vv. 14–16). What does this teach us about supporting and standing up for each other in the family of God? Show Up and Serve S1 Jesus noticed and acted for someone in need during a regular gathering. How can we be more attentive to people’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs when we gather as a church? S2 Right after this event, Jesus tells parables about the mustard seed and yeast (vv. 18–21). How does this healing reflect the way the Kingdom grows—quietly, yet powerfully? What does that mean for the small acts of service we can do?

What does Jesus’ response reveal about His identity and mission as King? K2 Verses 28–30 describe Jesus as “gentle and humble in heart.” How does this kingship differ from the way earthly rulers often exercise authority? GROW IN GROUPS G1 In verses 16–19, Jesus addresses the generation’s critical spirit. How can we, as a group, guard against that kind of attitude toward each other and toward God’s work? G2 Jesus invites the weary to come to Him for rest (v. 28). How can we practically help each other experience this rest in our spiritual communities? SHOW UP AND SERVE S1 In verses 20–24, Jesus warns cities that saw His works but did not repent. How does recognizing Jesus as the gentle and humble King motivate us to take action in serving others? S2 How can we embody Christ’s gentleness and humility in our own service—especially when dealing with people who are skeptical, hurting, or resistant to the gospel?

What does Jesus’ refusal to settle the inheritance dispute in verse 14 teach us about His role as King? Why might He redirect the conversation from fairness to greed and the heart? K2. In what ways does recognizing Jesus as King transform how we think about money, security, and success? How does this challenge cultural messages we often hear? GROW IN GROUPS G1 Why do you think Jesus tells this parable to a crowd, rather than just the man who asks the question? What does this say about the importance of learning and growing together? G2 The rich man speaks only to himself in verses 17–19. How can isolation lead us away from generosity and God’s wisdom? How can Christian community help us keep our priorities in check? G3 What’s one way your group or family could encourage each other to be more open-handed and less anxious about possessions? How might this reflect God’s kingdom to others? SHOW UP AND SERVE S1 Jesus calls the man in the parable a “fool.” What made him foolish, and how might we avoid making the same mistake with our resources? What would it look like to be “rich toward God” in your daily life? S2 Where do you sense God inviting you to “show up” this week—with your time, money, or energy—in a way that blesses others and reflects His generosity? What might it look like for you to “take time” to know Jesus in the middle of your busy life? K2 Martha was distracted by many good things. In what ways do we let even good activities pull us away from the better choice of being with Jesus? Grow G1 It’s often easier to do for Jesus than to be with Him. How can being part of a group help us learn to pause and listen like Mary? G2. The example of others matters. Share about a time when someone else’s example of choosing Jesus encouraged you to do the same. How can we encourage each other in this? G3 Martha was serving—but missing something. How can we make sure our serving flows out of time with Jesus, rather than becoming a substitute for it? Show S1. Jesus calls us to serve from a place of rest. What’s one way you can “show up” to serve someone this week—but from a place of spiritual connection, not just busyness? S2. We all have the same 24 hours—often filled with sleeping, working, commuting, scrolling, chores, eating, and relaxing. What’s one area where you could intentionally “take time” from something else this week to be with Jesus? What might that look like?
