The One Thing: Released by Jesus
Scripture: Luke 13:10-17
Preacher: Rev Nate Huff
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Know Christ as King
K1 In Luke 13:10-17, Jesus demonstrates His authority over the Sabbath traditions. What does this reveal about His identity as King and His priorities for His Kingdom?
K2 How does Jesus’ compassion toward the bent-over woman show the heart of the King compared to the legalistic approach of the synagogue ruler?
K3 The previous section (vv. 1–9) speaks of repentance and fruitfulness. How does Jesus’ healing here illustrate what “bearing fruit” in God’s Kingdom looks like?
Grow in Groups
G1 How do you think the synagogue crowd felt as they watched this encounter? Why do you think they rejoiced in Jesus’ actions? How can we as a community respond similarly when God works among us?
G2 Jesus publicly defended the woman against criticism (vv. 14–16). What does this teach us about supporting and standing up for each other in the family of God?
Show Up and Serve
S1 Jesus noticed and acted for someone in need during a regular gathering. How can we be more attentive to people’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs when we gather as a church?
S2 Right after this event, Jesus tells parables about the mustard seed and yeast (vv. 18–21). How does this healing reflect the way the Kingdom grows—quietly, yet powerfully? What does that mean for the small acts of service we can do?
