Writing a book is like running a marathon. Oh, wait. A runner can stop when they reach the finish line. Maybe the comparison is more like an Iron Man Triathlon, where the athlete first swims 2.4 miles, then bikes 112 miles, and THEN runs a marathon. Yep, that’s a better comparison for the author's journey. The Iron Man Triathlon is considered one of the world's most difficult one-day sporting events. The athlete’s journey does not start that day. They spend months training for the big event, hiring trainers, buying equipment, following a strict diet regiment, and enduring all manner of torture to accomplish this impressive feat. Likewise, authors spend months, if not years, navigating a minefield of imposter syndrome, writer’s block, and other tortuous moments broken up by moments of genius. To overcome this, writers need a plan, a team, and a coach to help them through all the triathlon phases: writing, publishing, and marketing. That’s why I founded the Biz Book Publishing Hub, which has more than 50 experts ready to guide entrepreneurs through the complexities of their author journey. I regularly host free virtual networking events for writers and authors and host this podcast to bring you inside the minds of authors. As a book launch strategist, I know that first-time authors often struggle to see past the writing phase. Today’s panel will share their experiences as authors, including lessons learned and strategies that worked. Tune in to see how being part of a supportive author community can make all the difference. You’ll find all of our episodes at www.BizBookPublishingHub.com. Now, it’s my pleasure to introduce our panelists: Dawn Kristy wrote “33 Ways Not To Screw Up Cybersecurity,” which offers practical tips and checklists in 33 easy-to-follow chapters to help individuals and businesses protect themselves from cyber threats and avoid common security pitfalls. Kathy Sparrow wrote “Ignite Your Leadership: Proven Tools to Energize Teams, Fuel Momentum, and Accelerate Results,” which provides actionable strategies and insights to empower leaders to inspire their teams, drive performance, and achieve organizational success. Nancy Giere wrote “Bundle Your Brilliance: Turn your expertise into profitable online courses " to teach experts how to package and sell their expertise effectively. Please join me in welcoming Dawn, Kathy, and Nancy.  Our guests emphasize the importance of planning pre-launch activities. Dawn shares her experience of how a strong pre-publication effort can make all the difference in creating a successful book launch. Plan ahead, folks! Kathy, a seasoned writing coach, advises all aspiring authors to write a book to boost credibility. If you're short on time, she suggests hiring a ghostwriter. Writing a book isn't just about sharing knowledge; it can significantly elevate your professional stature. Nancy and Dawn stress the importance of knowing your audience. Crafting a book that meets your readers' specific needs and interests is key to ensuring its success. Remember, it's not just about what you want to write but what your audience wants to read. It may feel like a marathon when you write a book, but a marathoner can rest when they cross the finish line. When a business author reaches the publication date, they can’t rest. They now have to shift from writing to marketing their business book because publishing was not the goal.  A step often skipped is the book launch, which overlaps the end of the writing phase and the start of the marketing phase. I love this part. I coach entrepreneurs to build a launch team of likely prospects and referral partners, get 50+ Amazon reviews, and create a pipeline for the author’s offers. Don’t jump from writing your book to paying for PR services before your book looks like a success on Amazon. Reviews are social proof, and conversations with prospects lead to new revenue opportunities. Reach out to schedule a complimentary book launch brainstorming session. Complete the form at www.robbiesamuels.com/booklaunchsupport to get started. And now, it’s my pleasure to introduce our panel of authors, who will join me in a moment for a frank conversation about the ups and downs of the author journey.  Biba Pédron wrote “M.D.R: The Winning Formula for a Successful Life: Luck does not exist; You create it.” This book will show you—and even prove to you—that anything is indeed possible, even your wildest dreams. Nothing is impossible. Brenda Reynolds wrote “TBD—To Be Determined: Leading with Clarity and Confidence in Uncertain Times” where she shares information, strategies, and real-life examples that will grow your confidence and hone your leadership skills.  Julia Freer Goldstein wrote “Beyond the Green Team: Aligning Internal and External Communication to Advance Corporate Sustainability.” A key message is that the way you communicate sustainability—first within your company and then with customers, investors, and other stakeholders—is the essential foundation of any successful green initiative. Let’s give a warm welcome to our panelists, Biba, Brenda, and Julia. Learn why book reviews are vital for your book’s social proof and impact on platforms like Amazon and beyond. Discover why separating your publication day from your launch day can alleviate stress and streamline your promotion timeline. I offer tactical advice on acquiring reviews, from drafting templates to guiding reviewers through the process. No matter where you are on your author journey, it can feel like there’s always more to learn—because there is! Especially when you’re new to this process. So many questions to ask and even more questions that you wouldn’t even know to ask. Just getting a book out of your head and into a format that can be purchased takes a tremendous amount of effort. Let’s make sure you don’t just hit publish, but that you properly launch your book so it helps you achieve all of the goals you had for writing a business book in the first place. To help you figure out some of those goals and avoid some common mistakes, I’ve brought together an author panel.
