Ash enjoyed sitting down with our friend, Dr. Chris Knobbe, to discuss PUFAs (polyunsaturated fatty acids). We dive into the specific health consequences that occur when PUFAs become a high % of your diet. These fats aren’t toxins, but the dose makes the poison. We discuss why you should not try to increase your Omega 6 or Omega 3 consumption - prioritize saturated fats! Chris Knobbe, MD, is a physician, researcher, ophthalmologist, public health advocate, and Associate Clinical Professor Emeritus, formerly of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.   Dr. Knobbe’s research has focused greatly on the “vegetable oil hypothesis” as the primary driver of overweight and chronic disease.  In 2016, Knobbe formally introduced the hypothesis that processed foods and vegetable oils are the primary drivers of AMD, which is the leading cause of irreversible vision loss and blindness in people over the age of 50, worldwide.   Time Stamps 0:00 - Intro 1:30 - Dr. Chris Knobbe’s background 5:50 - Nutrition courses in med school & challenges with publishing research  8:50 - what are PUFAs and history of our fat consumption 23:50 - health consequences of PUFA consumption  35:30 - Chris’s 4 pillars of hazard with high Omega 6 consumption  41:00 - what is oxidation 49:00 - what about Omega 3s? 1:01:35 - summary of 4 health consequences of high PUFA consumption 1:05 - Vitamin E 1:08:20 - Tips to reduce PUFA consumption, fatty acid analysis of our chicken eggs and meat, nuts & seeds 1:36:25 - how to find and support Dr. Chris Knobbe’s work Links: https://www.CureAMD.org http://www.AncestralHealthFoundation.org (pending activation) Links to Recent Presentations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-te509vqnFs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0bRGsev4fI Dariush Mozaffarian paper about calories going down and obesity rate going up https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/article/115/6/1445/6572830  Contact  Chris A. We were blessed to sit down and talk with Kate Kavanaugh today, the founder of Western Daughters Butcher Shop in Colorado, the host of Mind, Body and Soil Podcast, and an overall badass farmer/butcher/woman - you’re going to want to hear her story! The bulk of the conversation is centered around the idea that farming, butchering, and every step of the process of “farm to table” is not without hardships. Kate shares her own struggles keeping Western Daughters afloat, and brings up important considerations regarding the food and farming systems in America, and the struggles this not only brings upon the farmer, but the consumer. Learn how you can do your part to support local farmers with smaller, more realistic steps that go a long ways. We also talk about community, how most of us are seeking to “find our tribe” and feel a part of something greater, which involve the food that is placed at our tables. The importance of having conversations, being open minded, and finding individuals whom seek to evolve and expand their horizons with you cannot be overlooked. We hope you enjoy this candid conversation and we’ll absolutely have Kate back on to talk more about her dietary influences and her perspective on healing. We had the pleasure of talking with Dr. Tom Cowan in this episode intended to challenge your current beliefs about the human body, what makes us sick, and consider a new outlook on healing. It may seem simple, but in Dr. Tom’s eyes, it is. Or at least, things are not as complex (or maybe more complex) than what we’ve been led to believe. Basically, Dr. Tom challenges us all to question everything, and in doing so, we are prompted to look at beliefs we’ve formed based on evidence that may not be substantial enough to warrant entire theories or our working knowledge on topics to stem from. Tune in to learn more why Dr. Tom gave up his medical license, whether he believes “viruses” are indeed what makes us sick, whether the heart is a pump, his thoughts on cellular structures within the body (you know, like the endoplasmic reticulum pictures you’ve seen in your high school textbooks), genetics, cancer, structured water, immune system, EMFs, light, etc… At the end, we try to simplify this discussion down into what Dr. Tom believes is crucial for the human body to heal. It was a refreshing outlook when things can seem so complex and scary at times.  Hope you enjoy! You can find Dr. Cowan at: https://drtomcowan.com
In this episode, we talk with independent researcher and health coach, Danny Roddy, who has been involved in the bioenergetic health space for some time now, after years of prior experimentation with his own health. We discuss Danny's greatest takeaways from working on his own health plus helping others, what a full day of eating looks like for Danny and how this has evolved, fiber, gut health, environmental toxins, supplements, tuning into yourself, WiFi/EMFs, and what Danny would do if he lived in the city. Danny is also an up and coming chicken farmer, so you bet there is discussion about our mutual love of chickens, as well. Hope you enjoy - speaking with Danny is just a delight, he's well grounded and has gained a ton of valuable perspective and experience over the last decade existing in the health space. This episode is all about CIRS: Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome. Sarah shares her experience being diagnosed with CIRS, and reviews the Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker Biotoxin Pathway that manifests in the body once CIRS is triggered. We discuss who is susceptible to CIRS, testing you can do, where you can find a CIRS literate doctor, what treatment looks like, and what you can do right now to start feeling better with CIRS. I (Sarah) am still undergoing CIRS treatment, but I wanted to bring this topic to the table in order to inform others, as CIRS is not very well known, as well as share my own experience, tips and advice to hopefully help others who are struggling with chronic illness, mysterious illnesses, mold toxicity, chronic fatigue syndrome, and so many other debilitating illnesses that very well could be CIRS if the person cannot overcome it. Seed oils are intricately laced within our society. Every time you eat out, the food is more than likely cooked in seed oils if not containing an ingredient list that includes seed oils to begin with. In this episode, we talk with the Seed Oil Scout who created an invaluable resource for us all to better scout out and avoid seed oils while still enjoying eating out via the app, Seed Oil Scout (SOS). In this episode, learn how to “dine fearlessly” … We go over why we should consider avoiding seed oils, a brief recap of the harmful impacts of seed oils on our health, why seed oils have become so present within the restaurant and food industry and what this actually looks like in practice, how you can better avoid seed oils when ordering out (better menu items, tips for ordering), dangers of fried food specifically, how the app can help you scout out restaurants that are seed oil free and how we can help build the app to become even more inclusive. In this episode we cover the importance of balancing detoxing with nourishment, different forms of detoxing, Adam's experience with liver flushing (aka the liver and gallbladder cleanse), coffee enemas, why we may consider placing emphasis on detox and who could benefit as well as how to properly nourish yourself along the way. Adam is the founder of LifeBlud, a supplement company out of Canada that provides supplements free of additives and stabilizers to support a bioenergetic lifestyle. His background of unhealthy eating and drinking brought him to a radical realization in his 20s that in order to continue to feel great and enjoy life the way he wanted to, he needed to make some changes. Adam's long journey through different detox diets led him to the "pro metabolic" world where he recognized the importance of supporting his metabolism. He now has a unique appreciation for both detoxification + supporting the metabolism and in this episode we tried our best to dive into the nuances of how we can do both at the same time, and how both of these modalities actually work together.  Please keep in mind that this podcast is just a discussion and not medical advice. Everything we discuss is based on our own research and experience + Adam's research and experience and is not applicable for everyone. We will be having a separate conversation between the two of us (Sarah and Ashley) next to address some of the nuances that were not discussed and also provide a bit more insight on different forms of detoxification and our personal experiences, outcomes, suggestions/tips, and more.  CONNECT WITH ADAM Lifeblud http://idealabsdc.com/ Twitter @adammarafioti Adam's Energy Restoration Process https://lifeblud.co/pages/energy-restoration-process You can connect with us on Instagram @strong.sistas Or our farm Instagram @angel__acres Learn more about our course, Rooted in Resilience & our exercise membership, Strong Training on our website www.armstrongsisters.com Thanks for listening :-)
A conversation with Georgi Dinkov about the connections between elevated estrogen, histamine, serotonin, and endotoxin - four components to what often becomes a viscous cycle of estrogen dominance, gut issues, mood issues, histamine issues, and more. Learn why serotonin is not simply "the happy hormone" and excess serotonin produced in the gut is actually a bad sign. Estrogen is not simply the female hormone, and elevated levels of estrogen are often missed due to low or normal blood levels, but high levels stored in the tissues. Histamine intolerance should be addressed with the greater picture in mind. improving the metabolic rate and addressing estrogen dominance. Elevated endotoxin is toxic to the entire body and often exists in states with higher levels of estrogen, serotonin, and histamine. Georgi provides some details regarding the corruption within big pharma, SSRIs, and other drugs. We also discuss the benefits of aspirin and progesterone, progesterone and thyroid during pregnancy, chicken health, and a few other random topics. Towards the end, you'll learn some practical steps you can take to break the estrogen-histamine-serotonin-endotoxin cycle to start alleviating many symptoms and further along your healing journey. Understanding what foods to eat, how much food to eat, what macros (how much protein, fats, and carbs) and so on can be tough, especially in today's diet-culture. In this episode, we provide our perspective on what it means to follow just another fear-based "diet" with rules, versus actually starting eating intentionally to heal your body and reach your goals. We go over macro tracking and who would benefit from tracking their macros, what macros are, what good macronutrient splits look like and how to determine the optimal macros for yourself. We also talk about determining whether seasonal eating is realistic and if it truly is the optimal way to eat + whether or not intuitive eating works, especially for those that have dieted in the past or have an altered metabolic state (like hypothyroidism, hormonal imbalances, weight to lose or gain, etc.) + more. Hopefully this episode provides a little more hope in regards to exiting the never ending and ever evolving diet-culture, and finally becoming in tune with your individual body's needs and preferences to start healing and thriving.  You can connect with us on Instagram @strong.sistas Or our farm Instagram @angel__acres Learn more about our course, Rooted in Resilience & our exercise membership, Strong Training on our website www.armstrongsisters.com Thanks for listening :-)
