She is a competitive student leader with vision and purpose. The astounding young Shero plans to major in public health on a pre-med track in college. Some of Nyami's accomplishments thus far are participating as an ambassador with the Young Black Leaders Alliance (YBLA), vice president for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools youth council. As a young servant leader Ms. Aghedo has already begun serving the city of Charlotte by starting a non-profit organization, To and Fro-Connecting Communities. During the interview, Nyami shared gratitude for her mother, YBLA, and those that supported her dreams and cultivated her growth. Nyami's observation of fellow students and other youth is that many feel unsupported and lack appropriate resources/spaces to be safe and vulnerable regarding mental health (depression/anxiety etc...) challenges. Her recommendation is to focus on real engagement and eliminate transactional interaction. Doing so will improve trust, confidence, and promote an environment that exposes youth to successful and service-oriented peers. Listen to hear how her mom motivates her to do more, what she put her in to get exposure, and open her mind to opportunities. Today's episode of The Infinite Voice of our Youth features a game-changer that's committed to closing the STEM gap in America between men and women. The shero that I am referring to is the ever-curious Abi Olukeye. Mrs. Olukeye is an expert in the STEM field, having spent close to thirteen years perfecting her craft. During this interview, we discussed Abi's journey from Lagos Nigeria to the United States, and how it shaped her trajectory and love of STEM. At 14, she moved to the United States and fell in love with technology. Her attention to detail, curiosity, resilience, and exposure to various functional areas impacted by technology expanded her lens of STEM, which she leveraged to inspire young girls. She wants to make sure every girl is STEM literate and could make informed decisions that at least gave them the option to use STEM tools in whatever they choose. She was driven to normalize girls in STEM by educating parents and providing abundant resources for educators. Abi's program Smart Girls HQ exposed fifth-grade girls with science, technology, engineering, and math modules. The modules simulated medical school during the first module. The practical approach that her program deploys while building trust has helped Smart Girls HQ expand the thoughts of possibilities for her students. Their confidence has improved, and thus the scope of what they can accomplish has significantly improved. Abi's drive, wisdom, and desire of cultivating an eco-system of STEM girls that's the status quo, or at the minimum, an option will dynamically change our girl's pathway to tech fields in Charlotte. Help us by sharing this episode and making everyone aware of the STEM possibilities, diversity, practicality, and the opportunities that exist to elevate upward-mobility in the Queen City. Abi is a technology accelerator and gender equalizer which is committed to decreasing the gender gap in this field. "If you can write you can read and I’m going to help you do both" The featured guest today is Logan Mauldin with his mother, Angela Mauldin. Logan is an up and coming, 17-year-old King. This King has evolved from a prince and has matured at a very early age. He shared his appreciation that both his parents provide. His father has offered him lessons that have benefited him to this day. Logan is a gentle giant who stands six feet three inches and weighs two hundred twenty pounds. He meditates and reflects on life to align himself when he finds himself out of balance. His temperament and introspection are well beyond his age. He values spending alone time to speak with the Most-High, to give thanks for his many blessings. Logan proceeds to share with the audience how his mother has been instrumental in his life. He talks about her consistency, her positive energy, and how it encourages him to believe and reassures him to persevere when life gets tough. Angela shares how she knew that before Logan was born, that he was destined for greatness, which is what the Most-High had ordained and told her. She talked about her responsibility for preparing this amazing young man. Angela gave him a framework and provided him freedom within the structure to excel. She provided energy, support, relationship, and encouragement to understand he could do anything. During the episode, you could see the special bond that mom and son share. Mom supported Logan when he was seven years old and told her he wanted to write a book. Logan was inspired to write this book due to his observation of inequity in reading support between males and females in school. He didn't stop at his first book. He also created reading workshops in the school, a nonprofit organization, and then his second book. Logan describes himself as a mature young man who was disciplined and sacrificed time to address the reading disproportionality between males and females. He recommends paying attention to those who are supportive of your dreams instead of pessimistic people. This young man wasn't satisfied with just writing the book. I was amazed at his energy, passion, and conviction to serve the youth in the school through reading programs that built confidence, vocabularies, and competence. The title of Logan's books are: Step up your Game, and Life of a King. The books were written when Logan was 7-8 years old and 11-12 years old. Logan is a scholar and athlete. Logan is a gifted tight end at Myers Park High School standing 6'3". However, what's most important about this young man is his desire to help others and make the world a better place. Logan is a special young man. My request for today is that you help share this episode.
