If you press the f**k it button and eat way too much, counting calories can seem like the only option. People often feel their only options are track every morsel of food, or graze and slow binge all day. Counting calories can, however, make the situation worse. This episode talks about the hurdles of calorie tracking as an attempt to break the cycle of binge, stress, or emotional eating in the absence of the necessary skills. This episode discusses identity, insecurity, cravings, urges and certainty - and how they influence how we behave in the world. If you want new results, you need a new normal. The five topics discussed are often thought of as a bad thing. Here's why I suggest you see them as normal - that's what makes them easy to integrate, dismiss and ignore To book a one-hour personalised click here. The world supplies situations. Food supplies experiences. Other people supply words. We, as humans, supply the meaning. Our beliefs about ourselves and the world at large drive our behaviours and influence our outcomes. Many of our struggles stem from our relationship to our struggles. We assume certain things to be facts without deeper critique. This episode shares ten limiting beliefs clients are most likely not to see and some suggestions on how to move past them To book a one-hour personalised click here. We know the harm of food-restrictive diets, but what about things that diets restrict us from doing? How does not nourishing ourselves restrict our daily lives? How does a poor relationship with food restrict us from social lives? Or how does the weighing scale restrict us from a positive body image? Diets restrict us from self-reflection, wisdom, nourishment and confidence. Sometimes, changing your perspective is a matter of changing your definition. To book a one-hour personalised click here. Imagine ending the binge-restrict cycle, healing your relationship with food, and more. My former coaching client and current mentee, Clara, experienced this after a year-long weight-neutral approach. We went beyond diet rules, calories and macros and worked hard on new coping tools, in-the-moment techniques and developing skills in line with the person she strived to be. A calorie deficit equals fat loss, right? Not necessarily. A deficit will exaggerate your bad habits - especially those patterns you keep repeating. Maintenance doesn't "feel" like a goal but it's a vital one to learn nonetheless. A calorie deficit won't fix your bad patterns. It will magnify them further. This episode explores two main reasons why people find it so hard to thrive. Maintenance is life. It's where we should spend most of our lives. If you haven't experienced it, then this episode is for you. To book a one-hour personalised click here. (https://pauldermody.com/work-with-me/deep-dive-call/) For coaching inquiries, click here. If you are anxious about pressing the f**k-it button every time you eat a certain food, this prompt will help you break that pattern. It's a kind, gentle reminder of how to stay more present whilst eating. A refreshing perspective on how to (want to) stop eating whilst still wanting more of the food. Try this for yourself. Paul discusses a question he received on Ester weekend - "How do I not press the f**k it button this Easter?" Waiting until Easter Sunday to ask this is like asking how to learn to swim today. You can receive cliches that help you stay afloat - mindful eating, don't restrict - but the fear of drowning remains. The risk is asking this same question every occasion for the rest of your life. This episode is about healing your relationship with food and some ideas on how to do it. To book a one-hour personalised click here. Patterns of behaviour that once spared us embarrassment, shame or judgment might now be the source of our pain as adults. Secret eating once got us through a tough period and now it's the only way we cope. Intense restrcition offered us control and now it's the reason we overeat. We can ask ourselves "In what circumstance did this peculiar behaviour once make sense?" Then, gently, we can begin to coax ourselves towards better solutions here and now.
Most people rely on inner conflict to make eating choices. We want to shift organically into calm, controlled, self-assured decisions. So, let's talk about the audit. A behavioural audit. A period where the focus isn't as much on strict change as it is observation. What has worked? What hasn't? Who do you want to be on the journey? What is and isn't worth it? How do you develop confidence, self-awareness and control around eating? Paul transitioned into the online space six years ago with over 6,000 hours of 1 to 1 Personal Training behind him. He specialises in helping you find calmness and joy in food, understand your core food values and how to apply it all to your life successfully. To book a one-hour personalised click here.
