hey y'allback from a lil hiatus with a bite-sized ep on why we actually SHOULD treat disabled people differently to everyone else! this concept goes against the moral conditioning that a lot of us have, but I question why we assume that treating people in accordance with their identities and needs equates to treating them “badly?”let’s unpack..happy listening, and let’s get weird :)))resource 1 link: https://open.spotify.com/episode/1bkBHMbQ1Gy2QtNGhDKqFL?si=9f1e86b8f20c4004resource 2 link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N28_WsiSe9kemail: chronicxchaotic@gmail.cominstagram: chronic.x.chaoticwebsite coming soon...** Please email me if you require an episode transcript!! **Music is Los Angeles by Muzaproduction from Pixabay Hosted on Acast. wazzuuup, finally an episode on ADHD? after all this time? how fitting...just a short one describing some standout childhood memories that I can now attribute to ADHD! hoping this helps dispel the idea that hyperactivity only presents as being "naughty" or "out if control." as someone raised as a girl, and as someone who also tends to follow rules as an autistic people pleaser, my hyperactive traits weren't recognised - even by my ADHD assessor, who only diagnosed me as primarily inattentive ://check out my instagram post of the same date titled "ADHD hyperactivity can also present as..." to read through some alternate manifestations that don't fit the ADHD stereotype - hyperactivity isn't limited to the physical, but also includes mental stimulation! happy listening, and let’s get weird :)))email: chronicxchaotic@gmail.cominstagram: chronic.x.chaoticwebsite coming soon...** Please email me if you require an episode transcript!! **Music is Los Angeles by Muzaproduction from Pixabay Hosted on Acast. hello hello, today we discuss why we may seem "more autistic" when we hit burnout - in other words, why our autistic traits and struggles become more pronounced... no, you're not faking it, or exaggerating your autism. autism can be better understood as a dynamic condition that is influenced by environment, stress levels, energy levels, the presence of other mental illnesses, etc.this episode includes:the factors that I believe have contributed to my autistic burnouthow burnout can hit at times that don't seem to make logical senserelating 20 signs of neurodivergent burnout to my experiencewhat I do to try and manage burnouthappy listening, and let’s get weird :)))email: chronicxchaotic@gmail.cominstagram: chronic.x.chaoticwebsite coming soon...** Please email me if you require an episode transcript!! **Music is Los Angeles by Muzaproduction from Pixabay Hosted on Acast. unpacking this hot take: if chronic pain can cause complex-PTSD.. and complex-PTSD is a form of neurodivergence.. then experiencing chronic pain has the capacity to make someone neurodivergent?!In this episode I explain how experiencing chronic pain, illness or disability can lead to physical and functional changes in the brain. Complex-PTSD is a label describing the cluster of symptoms that tend to appear in survivors of long-term, inescapable stress. Our bodies are, quite literally, inescapable. This is why I believe that complex-PTSD is more common in chronic pain patients that we realiseI describe how seemingly small events, or 'micro-traumas,' are extremely common in the daily chronic pain life. Things such as new symptoms arising or medications not working can become traumatising when experienced over and over, day in, day out...This is a great episode to listen to if you have loved ones experiencing chronic pain, as it may help deepen your understanding of the world of medical traumahappy listening, and let’s get weird email: chronicxchaotic@gmail.cominstagram: chronic.x.chaoticwebsite coming soon...** Please email me if you require an episode transcript!! **Music is Los Angeles by Muzaproduction from Pixabay Hosted on Acast. a raw, unfiltered description of what an emotional flashback feels likemost people don't know what emotional flashbacks are, yet I see them happening all around memost people have never even heard of Comlex-PTSD, but I believe that it's one of the most common conditions out therethis is for all the people who feel small, vulnerable, and confused. for the people who don't believe they have any reason to feel this way. you will know in your heart if this resonates with you - try not to go down the rabbit hole of invalidating yourself.."my childhood was perfect, how dare I feel like this?""there are so many people out there that have it worse than me""I love my parents and they love me - how could they ever have hurt me?"if you do resonate, despite these voices in your head invalidating you, I encourage you to seek help from a professional who can help you unpack it. if you're not ready to do that yet, perhaps listening to more of people's personal experiences may help you feel validated and seen. I still have that voice in my head on the daily telling me I have nothing to complain about - that I am ungrateful. but that's the trauma talking. that's what C-PTSD does. it undermines your experiences and tells you to suck it up - so I'm here to remind you that we can start standing up to it and get the help that we deserve.some audiobooks that really helped me validate my less obvious childhood traumas are:Complex PTSD by Pete WalkerRunning on Empty by Jonice WebbAdult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents by Lindsay C. buckle up and welcome to our chaotic, disability-ridden friendship >:)I am joined by my bestie Gem Campbell, as we laugh & cry about how f*cked up our weirdly similar lives arean equally casual and serious conversation about living with so-called "invisible" disabilities, garnished with some oversharing and inappropriate jokes. We talk about how our disabilities aren't actually invisible at all, and how much it hurts that the world around us constantly turns a blind eye to our struggles just because we appear 'healthy' at a glanceremember that other people don't get to decide whether you are disabled or not - you know your struggle better than anyone, and it is so valid. we see you xxGem's deets are listed below!! Their work is so incredibly unique & vulnerable - everyone needs a bit of Gem in their life. Gem (they/them) is a qualified Dietitian, Nutritionist & Sexologist! They work with people to strip back the layers of societal conditioning and shame, especially when it comes to period empowerment and sexual healing. What is dissociation? Why does it happen? And what does it feel like for me personally? This episode is all about dissociation - the safety feature that our brains use to protect us from overwhelm. Join me as we de-mystify & de-stigmatise this poorly understood phenomenon. Dissociative disorders are lesser known mental illnesses to the general public, but the stigma still runs rampant throughout pop culture. Ever heard of multiple personality disorder? Perhaps you've seen a horror movie in which the villain has a whole host of scary, alternate personalities... This is the common misrepresentation of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), and other types of dissociative disorders, that we see in the media. I can assure you that as the people actually LIVING with these disorders, we are the ones experiencing the most fear - dissociative disorders develop as a response to trauma, and demonising them doesn't help anyone. I recorded this in the midst of a dissociative episode, hence why it is a bit melancholy and poorly articulated at times. I was so close to re-recording it, but decided that I don't want to censor my experiences. That's what this podcast is all about - it's raw, and it's vulnerable. Shame feeds the cycle of mental illness, so let's f*ck it offhappy listening, and let's get weirdemail: chronicxchaotic@gmail.cominstagram: chronic.x.chaoticwebsite coming soon...** Please email me if you require an episode transcript!! **Music is Los Angeles by Muzaproduction from Pixabay Hosted on Acast. Part 2 is here!!A solid 55 minutes of storytelling and getting my b*tch on >:-)Covering my 4 most recent diagnoses - autism, ADHD, BPD & dissociative disorder. Explaining how the system let me down in my first assessment, where I walked away with neither an autism nor ADHD diagnosis.. and how I slowly worked up the strength to go back and advocate for myself a second time. So many late-diagnosed people can relate to the invalidation I experienced - I hope this gives you hope if you've been let down by professionals. A reminder that self-diagnosis is so valid, I knew I had BPD and a dissociative disorder long before any professionals brought it up with me. No one knows you better than you know yourself, and the neurodivergent community is here to back you <3happy listening, and let's get weirdemail: chronicxchaotic@gmail.cominstagram: chronic.x.chaoticwebsite coming soon...** Please email me if you require an episode transcript!! **Music is Los Angeles by Muzaproduction from Pixabay Hosted on Acast.
