Dear scribblers + speakers, We are closing out season nine with a visit to Bali in the story: "Grumpy Gecko" from the book, "The Barefoot Book of Earth Tales" by Dawn Casey and Anne Wilson (pages 46-55). As I take a sabbatical during September (Self-Care Awareness Month), this last episode will also serve as a bridge for the new season that will launch on Oct 31, 2022. Beyond Self-Care Awareness Month, care deeply for all the districts, highways, and the back alleys of your life—personally + collectively. Today's Embodied Question: As you write yourself into this story, what did you notice + nurture + embody? I encourage you to do the embodiment activity on page 55. Embodiment CTA (Call to Abide): Take the Rest Assessment - Go from routine to ritual as you Notice + Nurture + Embody your cyclical rhythms. You'll receive your ritual-specific, personalized recommendation, which will help you tune into your body's wisdom to optimize tending to your rhythmic soul care. Dear scribblers + speakers, Our Morning Five are part of what I call CARE Rituals. They are punctuation marks and without them, each day is like a run-on sentence. There is a better way for you to engage the day—your rituals, personally + collectively. 1) H2O Cocktail —Revitalize and re-hydrate first thing each day (yes, before tea, coffee, etc.). Put together 8oz of filtered water with ¼ fresh lemon and ¼-½ tsp of sea salt (optional).  Caution: I recommend before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or on any medication, check with a qualified healthcare practitioner. This information is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. 2) Light—Just like plants, we have a distinct need for sunshine, water alone won’t keep our leaves green + vibrant. Sunshine is not only responsible for Vitamin D synthesis (every cell in the body is partly regulated by it), but it’s also the key agent in our circadian rhythm. 3) Movement—It’s important to have a movement practice that goes beyond hustling out the door or doing all the things around the house.  4) Meditation — 5 minutes makes a difference.  5) Gratitude—The practice of daily gratitude is arguably strongest in the morning and it amplifies what's already there. Dear scribblers + speakers, Today, on Wednesday, July 13th, we skywatchers will have a chance to behold a view of the biggest supermoon of the year so far, the Buck Supermoon. So let's pause with a meditative ceremony to give thanks to the Most High and reap of this celestial beauty + witness. "There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory" - 1 Corinthians 15:41. The Embodied Question: How will this supermoon remind you of your thriving and how you fully reflect the Son’s luminosity, personally + collectively. Embodiment CTA (Call to Abide): Nature's resurgence grants us the opportunity to indulge in our own reset. This supermoon should be met with reflection + rest. Take the Rest Assessment - Go from routine to ritual as you Notice + Nurture + Embody your cyclical rhythms. Dear scribblers + speakers, Oftentimes, getting stuff done means creating a to-do list. A list that can plunge the heart into overwhelm or avoidance. But there's a different story with this Intentions Journal as you create in-the-moment-pleasure + prepare for whatever is ahead.  Beyond creating a to-do list, create history. Order the 30-Day Intentions Journal. Watch the visual meditation. The Embodied Question: Are you allowing the "many things" in your day to derive their place + meaningfulness from the "One Thing?" Dear scribblers + speakers, On the Hebrew calendar, during the New Moon, women have a special affinity with Rosh Chodesh ("Head of the Month")—the month being the feminine aspect of the Jewish calendar.  We live our lives with the moon because we wish to harness the distinct qualities of lunar energy: its communion + creativity, its capacity for renaissance + rebirth. The moon's movement affects not only the movement of water upon the earth but also these earthen vessels. Like the tides, we ebb + flow. Ase' + Amen. Let’s lean in as we notice + nurture + embody our waning with the New Moon. This New Moon is a holy witness to remind us that in the darkness there's a creative, generative space in which light interacts and rest is optimized. Like the temporal darkness of the New Moon, let's embrace your/our temporal New Moon phases of the dark unknown until again we arrive at the luminescent fullness of our inner + outer Full Moon. Invite a suitable contemplative spiritual/creative practice, which compliments a waning vibe, a quieter movement that'll introduce you to new parts of yourself whether in scribbling, speaking prayers or affirmations, silence, eating, a sound bath therapy, etc. Watch the visual meditation. The embodied question is: "What New Moon ritual(s) will root you in your holy humanity?" (don't overthink this, we all have rituals—we simply don't name them as such.) Embodiment CTA (Call to Abide): Take the Rest Assessment - Go from routine to ritual as you Notice + Nurture + Embody your cyclical rhythms. Dear scribbler + speaker, The embodied question is: So what do we do when trauma + grief comes our way (over and over again), personally + collectively? Embodiment CTA (Call to Abide): We make space for grief with multifaceted, reparative activities. Because Life be Lifin' 24/7. Get Curious: Take the Rest Ritual Quiz Watch the visual meditation. Therapy: Therapy for Black Girls Journaling Prompt: Notepad PDF (free download) Meditative Playlists: Braid Grief with Grace Andrea “Angie” shepherds us into a pause for somatic healing of trauma to awaken souls to make space for grief through movement, empathy + curiosity, which supports reparative action, deeper rest, connections—embodiment’s ongoing pathways for healing, no matter where you are—even at a Walmart lube and tire center patiently getting a flat tire repaired. Somatic healing—reparative work-play has been helpful for Andrea not only with those she pastors but also in her own healing. She believes to be able to compassionately integrate play and listen to her body as a Black woman and connect with her body and other bodies is transformative and ancestral. Andrea offers pause parishioners a soft place to meditate on trauma + grief as they actively move through the body intentionally and intuitively on an individual and societal level. She shares the importance of a multi-layered, therapeutic support squad and feeling our feelings if and when we have the capacity, keeps us empowered enough to connect, create, advocate, rest and resist as we “braid grief with grace.” The episode concludes with Andrea reflecting on shattered hope at the fringes—hanging out on the outskirts, and the role embodiment can play in manifesting new possibilities of human flourishing amid violence, which is a threat to the nervous system (and so so much more), personally + collectively. Dear scribblers + speakers, Rituals are punctuation marks and without them, each day is like a run-on sentence. There is a better way for you to engage the day—your rituals. For women, the earliest rituals have long been tied to women's rhythms and cycles: solar + lunar + seasonal. The embodied question is: "What rituals ground you in your humanity?" (don't overthink this, we all have rituals—we simply don't name them as such.) Embodiment CTA (Call to Abide): Take the Rest Assessment - Go from routine to ritual as you Notice + Nurture + Embody your cyclical rhythms. You'll receive your ritual-specific, personalized recommendation, which will help you tune into your body's wisdom to optimize tending to your rhythmic soul care. Dear scribblers + speakers, Let's align with the audacious truth that we are co-creators, and we are always creating something—personally + collectively—intuitively and intentionally. Creativity is embodied through our humanity. Whether were are bearing fruit (outward + public) or being in our fallow (inward + private)—we have a sacred communion that connects us in our multifaceted creativity from the inside out. The embodied question is: "What do I create with my time?" The disembodied question is: "How or when do I find the time to create?" Embodiment CTA (Call to Abide): Let's make space for the ecosystem of grace + some mental acupuncture as we journal + heal. Dear scribblers + speakers, Journey with me in my backyard sanctuary as I lament + linger in this generative space. As you enter + engage this Tuesday (or whatever day you're listening), no matter where your lament lies, instead of consumption, commune and take a moment to reflect... A moment for lamenting during this lunar fullness - gratitude is full. A moment for breathing, sip your lunar libation + stretch - gratitude is full. We can set the vibe + trajectory for our hearts no matter what's happening because there will always be something happening that will blindside us with a sucker punch. Beyond the sucker punch—sanctuary. The question is what direction do you want your decisions + devotion to go? Dear scribblers + speakers, But is it really urgent?  There's a fierce urgency of now that has groomed + conditioned many of us to run off frantic fuel. But there is an unlearning liberation from this exploitive, debilitating fallacy that awaits us, personally + collectively. There is a softer, more shalom-making place to land as we pause in a meditation that opens us up to breathe + rest in holy curiosity about our patterns + path.
